Sinead O'Connor Cancels Summer Tour, Won't Be Coming To The Fox
Due to mental health issues, singer Sinead O'Connor has just announced that she's cancelling her planned North American tour this summer. She was scheduled to play the Mountain Winery and the Fox Theater in the Bay Area in late July, and fans who hadn't heard her live in many years were starting to get excited. But, alas, it wasn't meant to be.
Gotye Doesn't Like Being Compared to Sting
Gotye (it is pronounced just like Gaultier, btw) is performing tonight at Bill Graham, and there are still tickets available, guys! As you'll recall, they had to postpone his earlier show and move it to a much larger venue now that his song "Somebody That I Used to Know" is such a mega viral hit. Anyway, he chatted with SF Weekly today, and he had a few interesting things to say.
Local Promoters Seriously Underestimated How Huge Gotye Is; April Show Moved to Bill Graham
We first heard "Somebody That I Used to Know" back around the new year, and it was already a hit on YouTube. But Another Planet Entertainment had underestimated the fame that Australian singer Gotye would have gained by springtime, and hence they've moved a scheduled show at the Independent (heh) to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and changed the date as well. Gotye will now be performing, without Kimbra, on April 18, at a venue that is literally 16 times larger, and tickets for that show go on sale March 29.
Afternoon Palate Cleanser: Wallpaper's 'Best Song Everr'

Kreayshawn Almost Became A Janitor, Once Worked At IKEA
Oakland-born rapper Kreayshawn is headlining a New Year's Eve show at the Regency Ballroom (tickets still available), winding a year in which a single YouTube video landed her a record deal and a red carpet gig at the VMAs. Today she tells the Ex all about her teen years in the East Bay, after "her musician mother Elka (of Bay Area garage-rockers The Trashwomen) moved to Canada" and left her to her own devices at age 15.
Afternoon Palate Cleanser: Broken Social Scene's 'Cause = Time'
Here's a tune that's a few years old from a band/collective we've always loved, Broken Social Scene. They'll be here in S.F. this weekend performing for free (you may have heard) at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and thus they'll be one of several acts you'll likely want to get up close to see but won't unless you stake out your claim on some grass around 8 a.m.

Portland's Broadway Calls To Throw A Pogo Party At Submission Space Wednesday And You’re Invited
by Erick Pressman
When we were young, if you wanted to find new music, you went to a record store or at very least bought a copy of Spin, Rolling Stone, or one of the many genre specific music magazines that came and went over the last twenty years. Who knew that in the late 2000s, you could use cable television’s “On Demand” function, which features music videos as well as television shows and movies, to find new, and furthermore punk, bands you haven’t heard of. That, oddly enough, is how Broadway Calls first caught our attention.

Hey y'all! It's the 10th anniversary of the free concert that Warren Hellman built in Golden Gate Park, and the stars are coming out to celebrate along with, easily, half of San Francisco. Yes, it's wildly crowded (because it's free), but as Warren pointed out this week, there's never been any violence or strife in the nine previous years, and it's usually just a glorious, tightly packed celebration of music, hardly strictly limited to country and bluegrass

Above, see the Sisters performing the song in June in England, and click here if you want to see lead singer Jake Shears performing it in his underwear in Paris.
