The event begins with a comedy show with Big City Improv performing sketches based on audience suggestions. Then, dating coaches will lead participants through a series of fun and easy improv games. VIDEO: Check out the West Coast premiere of Target Video's SF Punk, as part of the SF Main Library's Punk Passages exhibit. The film features Bay Area early punk legends The Avengers, Dead Kennedys, DILS, Crime, Nuns, Flipper, Factrix, Noh Mercy, Minimal Man, Chrome, Offs, Z, UXA, Sick Pleasure, KGB, Negative Trend, The Mutants, and the Sleepers. FASHION: Witness a live, Project Runway-type fashion show at the ongoing Fashion Feud SF. Designers will create their "garments" on stage within an hour, the models will have a "walk-off," and the audience will vote for the winner. This month's participants are Chanel Rosales and Julia Meeks.

THEATER: There are two more preview nights for David Mamet's over-the-top comedy, November, which takes a satirical stab at American politics. The play was a Broadway success, and critics describe it as "one of the first breezy and intelligent comedies of substance we've seen in a long time" and "a hilarious, timely, decidedly un-Mamet-like laughfest." The play officially opens on Wednesday, and there are several nights this week with $10 seats available, including tonight. What a deal!

COMEDY: Margot Leitman and Giulia Rozzi present Stripped Stories, a touring night of sex-themed stories. Each show features a comedian, a non-comedian, and a musical act revealing hysterically honest stories about their sex lives plus an interactive jaw-dropping game of "never-have-I-ever" and an audience interview. Tonight's line-up is Chris Garcia (SF Sketchfest, The Onion Comedy Series), Sara Faith Alterman (Author, My Fifteen Minutes, Rooftop Comedy), and music from Mark Silverman (NPR, Dr. Demento)

ART: Artist Jacqueline Gordon's solo work, Our Best Machines are Made of Sunshine, merges contemporary folk aesthetics with the emergent technology of sound imaging, exploring patterns recurrent in nature and collected sounds "synthesized to create inhabitable sculptures that alter one’s physical experience to evoke feelings of intimacy and connectedness or confinement and isolation."

COMICS: Shitty Kitty is still abroad, but Telephone & Soup will be showcasing their latest Shitty Kitty work at Mission: Comics, which was inspired by their recent relocation to Rabat, Morocco. There will be an after-party at Shotwell's Bar immediately following the show, where Telephone & Soup will be video skyping in from Morocco.

FILM: San Francisco Cinematheque presents Of Heaven and Earth, a showcase of nine newly restored 16 mm films created between 1967 and 1971 by Tom Chomont, avant-garde master, New York provocateur, leather fetishist, and HIV survivor. Chomont's films capture the beauty of everyday encounters and illuminate the transcendental possibilities of the physical world.

David Cross at Union Square Borders on Saturday

The irreverent David Cross, who captured America's hearts (or at least the smart part of America) as the "never-nude," "analrapist" Tobias Funke and who graced SFist's comments with his controversial presence back in '07, has written his first book, I Drink for a Reason. Cross will be personally promoting the book this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Union Square Borders (400 Post St) prior his show at the Warfield that night.

ART: Love it or hate, street art is here to stay. 1:AM SF gallery, Estria, and Montana Colors North America present Don’t Sweat the Technique: Ode to the Spraycan, a celebration of aerosol art. The event showcases participants in the Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle finals, which are being held in Oakland on October 10. The gallery exhibition runs through October 9.

THEATER: Jarringly different from the The Miracle Worker, this re-telling of deaf-blind Helen Keller has Annie Sullivan speaking only in Japanese throughout the play, which "leads Helen to discover her abilities to communicate reach beyond her immediate surroundings." Helen Keller, the theater's site goes on to say, "explores the challenges of her isolation through the use of language in hope to illuminate our need for personal interaction in a technological non-personal world." (Why do you hate technology so much, artists?) Run until 9/6.

VARIETY: "Backpack Burlesque! Campfire Comedy! Sultry Acts of Nature!," boast the organizers of tonight's Summer Camp-themed Hubba Hubba Revue. Come enjoy a whole line-up of performers at this titillating variety show that won Best of SF 2009 and Best of the Bay 2008.

Exact Revenge on Your Neighbor Via Google Maps

We randomly came across this little tidbit yesterday while searching for kid band The She's, who are performing at the Rock Make Street Festival on Sunday. The disgruntled revenge-seeker/Walnut Creek resident must have taken the time to register their gripe as a business on Google Maps, which curiously shows up at the top of the aforementioned search list, alongside various local salons and restaurants. Strange. Here's a transcript:

FILM: This month's Incredibly Strange Picture Show features the zany Zach Galifianakis: Live at the Purple Onion. Filmed in 2005, Galifianakis' performance at SF's famed Purple Onion is said to still be his funniest. The footage of the stage show is accompanied by a tour diary and an interview between Brian Unger and Zach's "twin brother." It's also the Incredibly Strange Picture Show's 5th anniversary, and there will be pre-show entertainment and giveaways with host John Hamilton.

ART: San Francisco artist Micke Tong will be exhibiting a new series of site-specific conceptual art pieces, drawings, and installation sculptures in Micro-Habitat. Viewers can expect to find "low-rider inspired candy colored taxidermy forms infested by cities, pre-fab homes, and other human dwellings made of wood," as well as San Francisco-inspired facades that mimic Victorians, Edwardians, and present-day building aesthetics.

COMEDY: Off-the-wall comedian Maria Bamford has a knack for introducing the audience to her myriad of multiple personalities/dysfunctional family members during her stand-up routine, and we especially enjoy her occasional appearances on Tim & Eric's Awesome Show. See's Candies Involved in 9/11 Conspiracy?

Laughing Squid featured a photo of a rather poetic letter that's posted in the window of the former See's Candies in Nob Hill written by the building's landlord, which explains that the business has been evicted due to their contribution to the “Enron-sponsored” 9/11 attacks.

GALA: Legendary Academy Award winner Patty Duke will be honored live and in-person in Sparkle, Patty, Sparkle! The event includes an interview with the zany Bruce Vilanch about Duke's stellar career, a screening of Valley of the Dolls, accompanied by a live performance by Connie Champagne as Neely O'Hara and Matthew Martin as Helen Lawson, as well as a clip reel of classic Patty Duke performances. The event will benefit New Leaf Services, NAMI Walk/S.F. Bay Area, and Mental Health Association of S.F.

PERFORMANCE: The Lab has been celebrating their 25th anniversary this month. Tonight, composers Miya Masaoka, founder of the San Francisco Gagaku Society, and Tomas Philips will perform. Phillips' performance will consist of an extended version of his 2007 release, Drink_Deep. "Utilizing a series of low frequencies, isolated microsounds and minimal tones, the piece attempts to generate an immersive sound environment that allows space for the listener to be an active participant in the music, thus inviting a particular quality of engagement beyond the confines of conventional listening."
