While current events here in SF centered largely on Teflon, it's time for some iron - Nato Green's Iron Comic at The Make Out Room (3225 22nd St. between Mission and Valencia). Iron Comic is a live gameshow where 5 comedians rush to write a routine in 10 minutes from topics suggested by the audience (have we got some topics for them, one of which is NSFW and involves Gavin impersonating Ricky Aicardi, Mrs. Tourk, her favorite designer handbag, and the words "deep" and "coming"). Battling in the Joke Arena: Brian Malow, as seen on the Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Drennon Davis, of SF Sketchfest and the Peeper & Giney Show, Rusty Mahakian, and a couple more. While the Iron Comics are busy writing these fine featured comedians entertain the audience: Nato Green, Brent Weinbach, and Arthur Gaus, of the Big Fat Year-End Kiss Off and Comedy Day 2005. Friends of SFist, Charlie Anders (Writers with Drinks) and Annalee Newitz (whose Techsploitation column we read each week with the Weeklies) have a new anthology out called Tonight, contributors will be reading at City Lights (261 Columbus Ave. at Broadway). The book is a collection of first-person stories by women working in tech, science, game design, and other male-dominated "geeky" fields like tech law and even comic book writing. And of course the book has its own blog! (7pm)

We know we're saving up our money for countless Halloween-themed events this weekend, so tonight we're all about the free stuff.

Residents in North Beach are not very happy about the fact that one of the historic buildings in the N.B. might be bought by the Church of Scientology. The building is the Colombo Building on Columbus Ave. and Washington Street. In typical San Francisco fashion, the residents aren't upset because of the beliefs of the Thetan lovers, but because they tend not to mind their business and go out on street corners and try and recruit people. Hey, does this mean we can go after the people passing out the Daily Worker's on 16th & Valencia? Anyhoo, in response, Aaron Peskin is proposing legislation that will limit religious organizations from owning property in North Beach. At this point, the legislation looks like it has a chance to be passed especially as the Scientologist's don't really have an in with the Mayor. Oh, wait.
