Kids, are you ready to sweat and sway out in the desert for three days in April to the sounds of some of the world's biggest and best bands? After weeks of speculation, the time has come: Coachella has announced their 2012 lineup.
Coachella 2012 Lineup Announced: Radiohead, Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg Among Headliners
No Burning Man For You! (Unless You Already Bought Your Ticket)
We suppose that only the most JV, flaky, and virginal among you Burners would wait until late July to buy your Burning Man tickets, but if you did, sucks for you! For the first time in the dusty, druggy event's 25-year history, the thing is completely sold out, one month ahead of time. Organizers are capping ticket sales now, in compliance with their land use permit, and there will be no more sold, even at the gate.
Coachella 2010 Dispatch: Days 2 & 3 Were Better
We got over our trauma of getting there and getting in, and started enjoying ourselves more by Day 2, when several of our favorite acts came on, including SF's own Girls and Faith No More, Australia's Temper Trap, Gossip, Tokyo Police Club, Beach House, the xx, and MGMT. We had to get out of there a little early, as the throngs arriving for Muse started giving us flashbacks to Day 1 and we needed to rest our feet.
Coachella a Holy Mess, But Passion Pit and Jay-Z Were Good
Unlike in previous years when the enormous desert music fest felt relatively organized, if chaotic, Coachella 2010 feels like an overcrowded nightmare and it's not just because we're getting older. A lot of the acts sounded great, including She & Him, Passion Pit, La Roux, and LCD Soundsystem. Jay-Z brought down the house with numbers like "99 Problems" and a version of "Forever Young" featuring a surprise guest appearance by Beyoncé. But seriously, though, even the twenty-one-year-olds this year seemed battle-scarred and shell-shocked after a day of fighting through massive, shove-y crowds in the hot desert sun.
SFist Goes Deep, Deep, Deep Into Coachella
A few of this weekend's scheduled UK acts aren't going to make it because of that volcano in Iceland, including the Cribs, a band that recently includes famed Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr.
Coachella Tips
Ted of BAGeL Radio posted a list of handy tips for those of you trekking down to Coachella. Some helpful advice while sojourning in the glamorous Coachella Valley? Ted suggests, among other things, "As soon as you park, MARK THE LOCATION IN YOUR iPHONE," "Don't drink alcohol until the sun goes down -- you will be tired enough after hours and hours in the heat," "Bring cash for food, water, merch, brownies." Check out the entire list at BAGeL Radio. Also, remember: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Moisture is your friend.
Coachella Lineup Announced!
This year's headliners: Jay-Z, Muse, and Gorillaz. Apparently Thom Yorke, as a solo act, is a possibility for Day 3. Other highlights: LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Passion Pit, Hot Chip, Tiesto, and Pavement. Oh, and GRACE FUCKING JONES. 3-day tickets go on sale on Friday. See the full list after the jump. [via LAist]
Contest: Grand Ole Party @ Bottom of the Hill
It's going to be a grand ole party (sorry, we had too...) over at Bottom of the Hill on Sunday night where Grand Ole Party will be headlining. They just finished a very successful tour with Rilo Kiley and Vampire Weekend and are celebrating the physical release of their debut album, Humanimals (which came out earlier this month). Check out three of their recently recorded songs over at Daytrotter; it's pretty damn cool. Hailing from San Diego, this funky threesome is getting ready for their upcoming performances at Coachella and SXSW. Grab two spots on the guest list and some cool swag, including their latest CD and t-shirt, by entering below. You'll be notified on Friday morning if you win. Good luck!
Bay Area Bands Head to Coachella 2008
The Coachella 2008 line-up was announced last night. The reason you didn't hear anything about it was because they announced it in Mexico City, something to do with creating international ties. “This is really a way for us to get closer to our fans throughout Latin America who have been supportive of Coachella for the past 10 years,” says Goldenvoice’s Paul Tollett. Super; we just care about the line-up.
SFist Tonight
It's going to be freezing, but what else is new? Might as well make the most of it -- be sure to pack plenty of blankets and head over to a screening of the original tonight, in Dolores Park. Starts at 8pm, Dolores Park, Dolores and 20th.
SFIFF: Once
It doesn’t get any better than this. Really. We headed to the Clay Sunday night, very relaxed and content as it was, having spent one of the most beautiful days ever up at Stinson Beach (never mind all the flies, anyone know what the story was with those flies!?), and now happily anticipating the latest SFIFF romance , featuring Glen Hansard, the lead singer of the Irish indie folk-rock band The Frames.
Week In -ists
There's so much going on across the Ist-a-Verse that it's almost impossible to keep track these days. Fortunately, we do it so you don't have to!
Roadtripping At The SFIFF This Weekend
Who needs Coachella when there’s Oppikoppi, a rock music festival held in South Africa every year? Really, we would have loved to have been at Coachella this weekend, but if you couldn’t be there, the SF International Film Festival was a great place to be instead.
SFist Answers: Towing And Selling Out
It's time for SFist Answers, trying to enjoy the weather from inside today.

Elsewhere In The Ist-A-Verse
Shanghaiist probably knows a little more about China than the Chicago Sun-Times. Giving them the benefit of the doubt on that one. The city does to have a music scene. Don't even front like they don't. They also have Dorito bananas and white guys shopping for wives. What they don't have is any more tolerance for jaywalkers.
When The Lights Go Down In The City
Our concert picks for the week of 4/28-5/4.
