Even with all the nasty weather, this weekend proved to be yet another violent one in San Francisco. For sure. After five shootings took place within a 24-hour time period, two people lost their lives. Let's go to the rewind, folks:

Two separate shootings in the city of Richmond took the lives of three men on Thursday night.
9X Strikes, Kills Pedestrian
A few hours later after a car hit a man at the same intersection in Portola, a Muni bus stuck and killed a pedestrian on Thursday night at around 8:30 p.m. The 9X killed a woman in her 30s at San Bruno Avenue and Bacon Street.
Michael Savage Sues Islamic Group for Something or Other
We swear, this guy is one step away from strapping road flares to his chest. Now, it's increasingly difficult for us to explain the conceptual art that is Michael Savage's work. Its genius lies in its demented complexity. But according to Bay City News (via CBS 5), Savage recently "sued the Council on American-Islamic Relations in federal court in San Francisco Monday over the group's use of his words on its Web site." Apparently,...
Wiesel's Wispy Whacker Pleads Wacky
The man accused of assaulting and kidnapping Elie Wiesel -- attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, battery, stalking, elder abuse and hate crimes, to be exact -- changed his not guilty plea to one of insanity today. Earlier this year, if you recall, Eric Hunt, 23, stalked and dragged the Nobel Prize winner and Holocaust survivor from an elevator at the Argent Hotel (recently re-branded Westin San Francisco Market Street, even though it's totally located on...
Polk Street Fire Kills Two
Two people were killed this morning after a single-alarm fire broke out at the Star of India restaurant on Polk and Broadway. "The kitchen was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived," said San Francisco Fire Department Lt. Mindy Talmadge according to Bay City News. The bodies were found in a loft space just above the kitchen. Also, "one firefighter's foot fell through the floor of the loft," prompting the crew to leave until...
Go Back to Andorra, You Stupid Lithuanians!
While not nearly as exciting as receiving top honors as the best city for tourists to walk slow on city sidewalks, or best city in which singles can hump, on Monday the FBI just awarded SF as the city with the largest reported number of hate crimes in 2006. According to Bay City News (via SF Crime): With a population of approximately 746,000, had a total of 94 reported hate crime incidents in 2006,...
Oakland: Early Morning Hit-And-Run Kills Woman
This morning at around 1:15 a.m., an unidentified woman walking on Grand Avenue in Oakland was struck and killed by a passing car. She died at the scene. According to Bay City News, the vehicle then hightailed it northbound on Grand Avenue. Jerk. So far there is no description of the car or person that killed the woman. Of course, if any of you were up at that hour, kicking it in Oakland and...
Guy Robs Bank, Carjacks, Kidnaps, Gets Cuffed
According to San Francisco Crime (via Bay City News), at 9:05 a.m. this morning, Sacto resident David Bryant, 51, jumped over the counter at Wachovia Bank (at 200 Pine Street) and snatched some cash. He then fled the scene, all while cartoonishly leaving behind a trail of escaped dollar bills, and then tried carjacking two people with a knife. (Chortle.) He succeeded on the third attempt, kidnapping a cabbie at Bush and Sansome Streets, who drove him a few blocks away. Then, "police were able to stop and arrest Bryant on Leavenworth Street at 9:15 a.m."
SFist Blotter
Why, we've been so preoccupied with murder right down the street from SFist, we forgot that the rest of the Bay Area is also littered with shootings and bloody tomfoolery. Forgive us, won't you? Ahem: Two employees of Bill's Friendly were shot last night during a botched robbery attempt. One of the store's employees was killed, the other taken to a nearby hospital. (At right: the lone gunman's fierce image.) Another shooting in the...
P.M. Tenderloin Shooting
According to San Francisco Crime (via Bay City News) a 19-year-old man was shot in the chest in -- where else? -- the Tenderloin. The shooting occurred around Ellis and Jones Streets, according to SFPD, at around 7 p.m. last night. No word (yet) as to the victim's condition or possible arrests....
Shot 12+ Times? No Problem!
Last night in the city of Richmond, a 22-year-old man was shot over 12 times. And? He is expected to live. According to the Chronicle (via the formidable service that is Bay City News), responding police officers found the victim "had been shot more than a dozen times in the upper torso and extremities with a large-caliber firearm." Initially listed in critical condition, he has since come out of surgery and is expected to...
UPDATE: Paul David Addis' Grace Cathedral Arson Attempt Snuffed Out
Last night a little before midnight, Paul David Addis was arrested outside of Grace Cathedral, suspected of trying to burn down the historic church down. It seems that his neighbor called the police last night after overhearing him say something to the effect of "the cathedral wasn’t going to be there anymore." Yikes.
Two SF Shootings Incidents Hospitalize Three
According to Bay City News, "two separate Friday night shootings that occurred within about an hour of each other sent three men to San Francisco General Hospital." (And it's not even Halloween yet. Jumping the gun a bit, yes?)
Tenderloin Robbery-Shooting Arrests
"Help me. I've been shot," cried a Tenderloin hotel desk clerk who received life-threatening injuries after getting shot before 2:30 a.m. this morning.
Shooting Outside The Lex Almost Startles Patrons
San Francisco's white-hot crime trend continues to soar. Early this morning, someone fired shots from a car on the 3400 block of 19th Street, landing two victims a stay in the hospital, according to the Examiner (via Bay City News, a service we love more and more). What's more::
Hit and Runs in the Castro, Embarcadero
Update: Yikes. According to Bay City News, a fatal hit-and-run in the Castro took the life of a "45- to 50-year-old skater" (!?) 60-year-old man 77-year-old Roger Tennyson (or maybe someone else, or Rainbow Brite -- the victim's stats keep changing today) near Duboce Park at around 1:30 a.m. this morning. This comes on the heels of another hit-and-run incident: a member of the Canadian Navy was fatally stuck at Howard Street and the...
A Rare Monday SFist Blotter
Okay, we don't usually do crime wrapups on Monday, but we're starting to actually get more and more freaked out about the state of public safety in the city these days.
San Francisco Homicide Rates Up 20% This Year
It's time for the San Francisco crime mid-year report card, and we're not doing so great -- homicide rates are up 20% from last year.
Smelly Gas By St. Luke's
Pee-yoo. Workers fixing the pipes on Valencia Street near Tiffany Avenue (behind St. Luke's) opened a 100-year-old unused cast-iron pipe in the ground, which released what Bay City News is delicately referring to as "a noxious odor." The odor was sufficiently noxious that 30-some people in the area got sick (nausea, dizziness, vomiting) and around 11-13 people went inside to St. Luke's to get treated. Ironically, the rest of the workers at St. Luke's were trying to get outside, to get away from the smell.
Hot Stuff: Chocolatier Michael Mischer at Fog City News
We like what we saw and heard from Fog City News owner Adam Smith and suave Chocolatier Michael Mischer today on our lunch break. Fog City News is a nice, clean space on Market Street offering high quality chocolates and confections with a vast assortment of worldly magazines. Today's event was the first in a series of Friday afternoon visits (12 noon to 2 p.m.) from well known chocolatiers, and happens again on December 8 (Lindy Martin) and 15th (John Scharffenberger, coincidentally on our birthday [] should draw a lot of folks).

On the cultcha front, lots going on. Edward Champion scores a sit down with SFist's second-favorite Floridian, Dave Barry, in his latest podcast of The Bat Segundo Show. Lost in Grovont says that tickets are now on sale for Noise Pop 2006, but that details on the shows are sketchy. Leonard McKay files the second installment in his history of San Jose brewing for San Jose Inside, and Alder Yarrow wades into the debate over BYOB corkage policies, and calls bullshit on Pizzeria Delfina's Craig Stoll.
