Anti-war activist and wacky progressive Cindy Sheehan let it be known that she would back Roseanne Barr, famous for being Darlene Conner's sarcastic mom, for President on the crunchy Green Party ticket. Noting that the Green Party is "not entirely functional," Sheehan says that, even though Barr isn't part of the 99%, the comedian would still make an excellent great candidate.

Cindy Sheehan Crazily Denies Osama Bin Laden's Death
It was only a matter of time before conspiracy gibberish surrounding Osama bin Laden's death sprang forth. Enter Cindy Sheehan. Today, the American anti-war activist angrily denied reports of the the Al-Qaeda leader's death. Via Facebook page, Sheehan fumes:
Cindy Sheehan Rocks Travis Air Force Base
While we typically like to poke fun at Cindy Sheehan and the loopy ladies of Code Pink --because, let's face it, they usually deserve a good ribbing -- we have too hand it to local anti-war protester Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, for shoving a megaphone in the face of an old man in uniform. Not only was it humorous, but it made a beautiful statement. See, during a protest against unmanned military drones at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield this weekend, Sheehan and other members of Code Pink got into a shouting match with some old man dressed as a veteran.
Cindy Sheehan Bugged?
Some "ultra-liberal" site called OpEdNews claims that, while kicking it at the Denver at the Democratic National Convention, fame-hungry Cindy Sheehan "walked in to discover a man working on her phone, screw driver in hand," bugging her phone. Egads! If it's true -- which? come on! -- that's a bit scary. But why Sheehan? Surely her late-night, paranoid exchanges with Chris "Not Since Dan White..." Daly are harmless. Anyway, read more about her alleged privacy rape and her reasons why she's even at the DCN here.

End the War in Iraq Day Resolution, Press Conference
This morning a press conference was held in front to City Hall about this Saturday's March to End the War Now. The parade (grumble), which will start at City Hall and drain into Dolores Park (next to the worldwide Michael Jackson choreography routine), will be honored with its own day. It seems that the Board of Supervisors passed a resolution making October 27 "End the War in Iraq" Day. (And that day only.) Hopefully, Newsom won't wuss out and pull the resolution like he recently did with el Snoop Dogg.
Pelosi V. Sheehan
Someone else viewed as unbeatable has a hail-Mary opponent from the progressive left -- and we're not just talking about Gavin Newsom and Chris Daly! That's right -- the stridently anti-war soldier's mom Cindy Sheehan has declared her candidacy against San Francisco's House representative, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
And We're Off (Sheehan Runs Against Pelosi)
Let the vanity runs for offices begin: Tenacious Texas trespasser and brilliant anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan just promised to maybe, possibly, perhaps make a run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi if our current Speaker fails to (finally) jumpstart a Bush impeachment come July 23. Sheehan plans to make it official next Tuesday, run as an independent, and swears to "give [Pelosi] a run for her money."
Day Around The Bay
--SFMike from SF Civic Center had a keee-razee day pollwatching on Tuesday. Ha! You gotta read this one.
Bang The Left-Wing Drum Slowly
As promised, SFist in fact did not watch the State of the Union address -- though we did catch part of it as we went to stock up on booze at the corner store (we figured they were watching it by the hard liquor in order to drive up sales.)
The anti-Bush group The World Can't Wait was pretty busy not waiting, though -- SFist received bulletins all day about various events, including one hilarious email reporting that someone was spelling out a message on Bernal Hill that looked like "BUSH IS TER DOWN." That's right, baby, he's Ter Down! This was apparently repaired shortly afterwards to BUSH STEP DOWN.
The day of protests culminated in Union Square, where activists aired the state of the union on a huge screen and banged drums and booed and played trumpets to drown Bush out. The drums looked a little Revolutionary war-like, but that's a minor complaint. We also heard a lovely rendition of the World Can't Wait theme song on KRON 4 News at 11 ("The world can't wait..... the world can't wait....") from an activist whose last name was Makepeace. They then toppled a papier-mache statue of Bush at the end of the protest and everyone went home. Police were watching but made no arrests. If you're so inclined, you should definitely check out KRON 4's video coverage of the event, it was hilarious. The world can't wait.... the world can't wait....
At the actual state of the union, someone else didn't hear the speech either -- Cindy Sheehan, an invited guest of Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma), was arrested and hustled out of the building for wearing a t-shirt that said "2,245 and how many more?" Isn't that what the whole speech was about? (Well, that and conserving oil.)

Wednesday, The New Wednesday
Wednesday, you're doing a heck of a job! Tonight: Satisfy your craving for Germanic food and drink at Schroeder's, while also learning more about the development plans for Piers 27-31 with San Francisco for Democracy, a spinoff group from the 2004 Howard Dean campaign. The local Sierra Club and a rep for an anti-development citizens' group will speak; the corporation trying to develop the property cancelled at the last minute. Mmmm, sauerkraut.
Thursday: Events listing fave Michelle Tea is at it again -- she's hosting a reading of underground and emerging writers in conjunction with the Gay and Lesbian Center at the Public Library. Authors Regie Cabico, Kaui Hemings, Roxane Dunbar-Ortiz, and Horehound Stillpoint will be reading. 5-8 pm in the Latino/Hispanic Room at the Main Library. In the same area, Cindy Sheehan is reading too, at Clean Well-Lighted at 7 p.m.
and Friday: The DeYoung Museum sponsors events on Friday nights! This week, Egyptian belly dancing performances! The dancers of the Al Masri Restaurant on Balboa and 42nd will perform a dance history of the raqs sharki dance from antiquity to today. 6:45 and 7:45, free with museum admission. The Egyptian Consul General will be present as well.
The Perils of Pelosi
show you how f----- up difficult the political situation is over the War of Iraq, one just has to look at the aftershocks of Nancy Pelosi's announcement that she backs the plans of John Murtha.
So we have a political party, the Dems, in a Catch-22: don't propose anything and get criticized for not having a plan only to then come up with a plan and get criticized for the plan. Which is what's happening. Just check out the excitable Andrew Sullivan, probably one of the biggest critic's of the Administration, who has taken to calling the Dems "useless" due to their inconsistent bouts of incoherence.
SFist Blotter
A failed robbery in Golden Gate Park led to a murder, as a man trying to help out a woman being mugged by two brothers was shot to death. Another witness was apparently trying to warn both the woman and the Samaritan that the two brothers were armed, but it's unclear whether the Samaritan heard. The brothers then attempted to escape the cops but got lost in the park trails. It;s the first time the lack of clear signage at Golden Gate Park has ever helped anyone! The murder count in SF is now up to 81 people, which is exactly where it was at this time last year.
Local gal Cindy Sheehan was found guilty of protesting outside the White House without a permit, a misdemeanor. She was fined $75, and plans to appeal. "We weren't demonstrating," she says. Riiiiiiiiight.
And dude, we are so attending the wrong continuing legal education classes -- the Bar Association of SF's real estate section's monthly lunch meeting at the Carnelian Room, on landlords' rights under the Ellis Act, was disrupted by tenant protestors, one of whom stormed up to the stage with a STOP ELLIS ACT EVICTIONS signs and started talking about tenants' rights, as other protestors began chanting, "Hey hey, ho ho, the Ellis Act has got to go." The landlord lawyers called security, to do a little evicting of their own.
Berkeley Cancels Veterans' Day Event
America may or may not be standing with Cindy, but on Nov. 11, veterans in Berkeley definitely won't be. A Veterans' Day event in the 'zerkeley's been called off entirely, after certain veterans objected to the inclusion of speaker Bill Mitchell, who co-founded Cindy Sheehan's group Gold Star Families for Peace, arguing that the event should be nonpartisan. "They have the other 364 days and 23 hours to make their political point," said Edwin Harper, adjutant of the local Disabled American Veterans chapter.
The chairman of the volunteer group that was sponsoring the event, Country Joe McDonald, of Country Joe and the Fish (who's a Navy veteran), has called the cancellation "censorship." Country Joe and his other organizers had thought they'd worked out a compromise last week, when they agreed that they wouldn't allow anti-war protest songs to be sung by a folk group called Annie and the Vets -- but the compromise fell through. You think the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth have a folk rock group too?
