Philip Garrido and Charles Manson: Prison Buds

The man convicted of kidnapping, raping, and holding Jacyee Dugard in captivity for 18 years will be sent to the same prison as noted Manson Family founder Charles Manson at Corcoran State Prison. Sacramento Bee reports: "Upon arrival, Garrido was placed in a segregated cell for his own protection but, after processing, likely will be placed in the prison's protective housing unit with 14 other inmates, including cult leader Charles Manson and mass-murderer Juan Corona." more ›

Leslie Van Houten Has 19th Parole Hearing Today

Former Charles Manson 'it' girl and two-time homecoming princess, Leslie Van Houten, has her 19th parole hearing today. The former Manson family member was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 1978 for her involvement in the Leno and Rosemary LaBianca killings. Only 19 years old at the time of the murders, she is now 60 and has a spotless prison record. Except for helping stab Mrs. LaBianca 41 times, that is. Van Houten is most noteworthy with modern audiences for inspiring the name of Bart Simpson's best friend, Milhouse Van Houten. more ›

Squeaky Fromme Paroled After 34 Years in the Clink

Squeaky Fromme Paroled After 34 Years in the Clink

Lynnette "Squeaky" Fromme, the weak minded yet lovable would-be assassin of Gerald Ford, is scheduled for parole from federal prison at the end of August. She's 60 now, failed to escape prison in 1987 (which she said she did in order to be closer to Charles Manson, and which earned her an extra 15 months), and she's recently spent some time in a Texas medical facility. One wonders if she's still got a thing for Charles Manson, who is serving a life sentence right here in San Quentin at Corcoran State Prison in California for the murder of Sharon Tate and eight others. more ›

The Haunted Ghost Tour

The Haunted Ghost Tour

Now here's what we're talking about! This is what we call a motherquacking ghost tour. We, pointlessly clad in red fanny pack and Alcatraz t-shirt, blew our tourist cover because we kept running into friends and friends' roommates and waving, and paling noticeably, even in the dark, when the tour got a little too close to our house for comfort. Note: never do a ghost tour in your own neighborhood, unless you are prepared to walk past the same spot at least 3 or 4 times a day, thinking every single time: "Oh yeah, whatev, Charles Manson lived there. Across the street? Yeah, they have a little ghost girl that they buy dolls for. See, you can see them on the mantel. Not frickin' freaky at all. Oh no. What, you don't sleep with the light on too?" On a chilly Sunday night in front of Coffee to the People, we met our genial tour guide, Tommy, an honest-to-goodness ghost hunter, There were only two of us on the tour, but that didn't phase him. Us, a little at first, but we got over it. And most importantly, he had goodie bags for us. With candy, a book of the tour, and fun goodie bag stuff. Take notes, Chuck and Ingmar, take notes. more ›

SFIAAFF: Sobhraj

SFIAAFF: Sobhraj

, as we've always been fascinated by the story of Charles Sobhraj, the subject of this film and a suspect in over 20 (the film's description claims 50, but that seems way higher than any statistics we found elsewhere) murders across several Asian countires. Not just a murderer, Sobhraj was also a people-influencer on the level of Charles Manson, a thief, and a con man. The guy is absolutely fascinating -- read this profile here if you don't believe us. more ›
