Way out in Delhi that's Delhi, California, along Route 99 in the Central Valley a pair of petty thieves broke into a barn and stole some CDs, which they likely hoped that could cash in for a few boxes of pseudoephedrine. Among the 50 discs they stole were at least 30 containing child pornography. So bothered were the thieves that they took the discs to the police, admitted their crime, and turned in the owner of the discs, Kraig Stockard who had previously reported the CDs stolen. Stockard was arrested and charged with possession of child porn, and is currently out on bail.
Burglars Find Child Porn, Help Bust the Guy They Burgled
17-Year-Old Josue Raul Orozco Still At-Large, $10,000 Reward Offered
Remember this guy? The guy who escaped from juvenile hall during recess, or whatever correctional facilities for the young call their break time? (Do you think they have "pizza Fridays" in juvie?) Well, he's still missing. And there's a Central Valley manhunt in progress for the allegedly murderous rapscallion, and the sheriff's office is offering up a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to his capture.
6 a.m. Oakland Drug Raid: One of the Largest Busts Ever
At the dewy-fresh hour of 6 a.m., Oakland police officers, Alameda County sheriff's deputies, and agents with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI went on an Oakland-wide spree of busts for heroin trafficking (as well as "cocaine and marijuana, " at least according to this morning's Mornings On 2's.)
Robbers Go Nutty
It's looking like a dreaded nut ring that has been terrorizing the Central Valley has been broken up as police arrested the two ringleaders on Sunday. The thieves, named Alvin and Simon, were caught with about $400,000 dollars worth of nuts on them. They were caught on Sunday when an alert factory worker noticed that several people were taking nuts out of boxes marked with the names of Central Valley nut companies and putting them into unmarked boxes. After about eleven people were taken into questioning, only two of them were charged.
Bay Area Blog Pulse
A week of rain brings out the best in travel and food bloggers -- why not beat the weather and take a trip or stay indoors to cook something nice? Ginevra Kirkland leverages the internets to take a vacation to Hawaii without leaving her desk, while Bay Area Bites looks to foodie blogs for culinary inspiration. Bacon Press takes in the almond blossom season in the Central Valley. Still, nothing better to chase the dreary weather blues away like a burrito.
It's Abortion Protest Saturday
This Saturday, there will be a big abortion protest taking place in the city in response to it being 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. We know- big yawn. Except it’s not what you think, it’s an anti-abortion rally. At first, when SFist heard about this, we thought it was a joke, you know ironic- kind of like all those Billionaires for Bush protests. But it’s not a joke, it’s real. There will be a rally at Justin Herman Plaza at 11 A.M followed by a walk along the Embarcadero from Justin Herman Plaza to the Marina Green in an event called Walk for Life West Coast. Upwards of 3,000 people are expected to attend, although most are being bussed in from the Central Valley. In deference to this being the Bluest of Blue States, march organizers Eva Muntean and Dolores Meehan have told all the folks at Operation Rescue to leave their aborted-fetus billboards at home. Asked why San Francisco, Roman Catholic and fourth-generation San Franciscan Dolores Meehan said that the point of the protest is to try and show pro-choice woman that abortion isn’t the only answer and that “there are other options.” Adds Muntean, also Catholic, “I want everyone to know that San Francisco is not a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah." But isn’t that why we love San Francisco?
