Everything that one can do with paint on canvas or a wall, arguably, has been done. But maybe that's not so with the glorious art of sidewalk tagging. Freshly dumped and smoothed concrete has the power to release creative juices in the unlikeliest of passersby. See, you can't just approach the sidewalk with a sharpie with your teen buddies in the wee hours of the night and start going at it. No, with cement engravinig, if you will, being nimble and cunning is a must -- qualities most modern graffiti artists don't possess.

Here are some cement-tuned-notepads. SFist does not condone the timeless art of sidewalk scribbling, but we thought you might like to see what's happening below your feet.

Concrete Slab Slays South SF Construction Worker

50-year-old Chiu Chun Wong of San Lorenzo was killed yesterday after a 15-ton section of concrete came toppling down on him. Ouch. According to the Gate, the fatal workplace incident occurred at "J.C. Steel Fabrication at 220 Michelle Court shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday." It seems that while Wong and another worker were putting a chain "around the bottom of the 20-foot-by-12-foot wall," the chuck of cement slipped, fell, and struck Wong, killing him instantly.

Although the fatal accident is believed to be an act of God, if you will, the city's building department, Cal/OSHA, and the SFPD are investigating the incident.
