image668069x.jpg Funny, we've never heard of the NRA endorsing a waiting period before. San Francisco and the NRA have agreed that the city will voluntarily delay enforcement of Proposition H for two months to allow the NRA to challenge the law in court. The NRA in exchange agreed not to move for a restraining order before the trial court (after getting tossed from the appeals court), which could have delayed enforcement for a much longer time. Instead, everyone's just going to fight it out in court, with a hearing scheduled on February 15, 2006. The main effect of this agreement is that High Bridge Arms, the only gun dealer in San Francisco, doesn't have to stop selling guns by this Sunday, which is when Prop H was to go into effect. (The article also says two private dealers in the city can continue to sell guns too, but doesn't say who they are.) The other portion of the law, requiring everyone to turn in their weaponry, doesn't go into effect until April 1, 2006 anyways, at which point the legal case should probably be decided one way or the other.
