Don Harbison, owner of B Restaurant and Bar (with locations in SF and Oakland), sent SFist a list of Oakland companies taking part in today's general strike by going cash-only and eschewing credit cards. Air Lounge, Caffe 817, Ratto's, OB's, Pacific Coast Brewing Company (decided to close today), Quickly's, Coobi, Cosecha Cafe, Liege, Marketing Kings, Lucky Barbershop, Ajuda Day Spa, The Trappist, Tamarindo, and La Calle are all going cash-only for today to show support for Occupy Oakland and today's general strike.

The economy has hit most of these businesses hard in one way or another. Harbison goes on to tell SFist, "The message is pretty clear. I just don't know if the sincerity and levity can be felt. We have really been affected and it is so hard to look at my guys and keep sending them home with cut hours knowing they have families to provide for."

For what it's worth, we highly recommend B Restaurant and Bar. We frequent the Yerba Buena locations on a fairly regular basis. Good food, big drinks. Anyway.

If you know of any other cash-only businesses we missed today, please let us know in the comments. Thanks.

Craigslist Escort Ad Bust Somehow Makes Headlines

Vice detectives arrested a woman of ill repute, Kimelyse Hurley, in Antioch yesterday after the fuzz posted a fake love-for-money ad on Craigslist. Hurley, in addition to carrying a meth pipe, also "admitted to managing five females that worked as prostitutes for her," according to CBS 5. Pimp a prostitute?

Nice. We didn't know that there could be overlap with those two professions. Anyway, m'lady was arrested, booked, and released later that day.

Yowza! Yowza! This Saturday afternoon at Dolores Park, Cash Tomato, a San Francisco "video sharing website that gives weekly large cash prizes to its highest rated videos," is giving away free cash. According to the press release, "from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. the general public will be
able to find hundreds of tomatoes hidden in Dolores Park (map) San Francisco, each and every one with cash attached." Nifty.

In addition to the "cash tomatoes," they will also be "handing out even more cash on the same day, between the hours of 10am and 1pm. The tomato team will then move to Powell and Marketand give away lots more free money to Saturday shoppers. They will request nothing in return, literally a free cash giveaway."

This is fantastic news. Hey, here's an idea: SFist readers, print out the press release and hand it to one of the many homeless guys and gals lacing the streets of San Francisco. Surely they could use some free cash, yes? Yes.
