We refuse to use the sterile and patronizing "partner") Cris Arguedas, it seems, now must deal with yet another San Francisco diva: Barry Bonds. According to the Sacto Bee, the letter "h" eschewing lawyer "joined the defense team of baseball star Barry Bonds last week, as the long-time Sam Francisco Giant pleaded not guilty to charges of perjury." Arguedas is now part of a high-profile team that will (probably) get Bonds off the hook. (Because you just know he's not spending a second in the clink. At least not in our lifetime.)

Although, according to the Chronicle:

Arguedas briefly represented former U.S. sprint champion Tim Montgomery, who also testified before the grand jury that investigated BALCO. Montgomery told the grand jury that he had used banned drugs and also testified that he had been told by Victor Conte, BALCO's founder, that Bonds was using drugs from BALCO as well.

Experts said it was possible that a conflict could arise for Arguedas if Montgomery became a government witness against Bonds.

Still, this is quite joyous -- the power couple of the year, perhaps? And between tonight's Milk club endorsement and Arguedas' Bonds trial, this could very well be the first time in history that we've wanted to share a bed with two ladies-who-like-ladies types. If only to hear what they have to discuss.
Ahem:

-- San Francisco Blog claims that "Senator Carole Migden...took the high road and chose not to engage in dirty politics." Well, that's no fun. And...skewed perhaps. Also, it seems Migden reapplied her lipstick several times during the debate.

-- According to LeftInSF, "The most awkward moment occurred at the end. To ensure fairness, Ms. Davis rotate who got to speak first. At the end, each candidate got 2 1/2 minutes to do their summary. She noted that Assemblymember Mark Leno was to go first. He stated that she was incorrect and State Senator Migden was to go first. Ms. Davis was very firm and repeated that it was his turn in the rotation to go first. Again, Leno objected and said that it was Senator Migden's turn to go first. Senator Migden used this opportunity to ask a show of hands if people thought that Leno was to go first. Ms. Davis was unyielding and Leno did his 2 1/2 minute closing statement." Now, now children.

-- KCBS notes "Leno told the crowd that he was not running for office as a personal attack on Migden." Of course not -- an open-handed slap to the face is so much easier and cost-effective.

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday: Migden vs. Leno Rematch

The airtight smiles. Yikes.

The main cause of concern for not keeping tidy books is that it could mean that money is being spent for personal, not campaign-related, use. Apparently, Migden's reports only list the amount spent and the name of the credit card company...and that's all. (Hey, she sounds better at managing her finances than us. But we digress.)

Oh, and the cattiest part of all, "[t]he Fair Political Practices Commission launched an investigation of Migden's expenses after receiving a formal complaint from Assemblyman Mark Leno...who is a candidate to unseat her in the June 2008 election." Oh, you two. Can't you hug it out over Grasshoppers at the Lex? Don't the gays and the dykes have an strained enough relationship as it is?

Note to our dear commenters: we understand a few of you use SFist as a platform to promote your candidates, and we couldn't be more flattered. You're all golden. But! Opposing candidates' sock puppets might risk outing if you make comments on this post without disclosing your affiliation. (Yes, we know who you are, SFist's beloved sock puppets -- friends, colleagues, all of you.) We're just trying to keep SFist real and fair; that's all. Why? Because Carole Migden stole the show (along with a hefty vote, not an official endorsement per se) at last night's Harvey Milk Club meeting. It seems that after an attempt was made to adjourn the meeting, Leno supporters asked the 100+ in attendance to "reconsider the vote at the next meeting because the current attendance was an unrepresentative sample of the club," according to BeyondChon.

Ultimately, this whole D3 election seems 100% personality-driven. Leno used to volunteer with Migden, and she got him his start by helping him get appointed to les Board of Supes. After their dramatic split, she supported the more progressive Harry Britt over Leno in 2002. And the rest? Is history. At least that's what careful whispers have told us.

But no one can do last night's scene justice like Mr. Chris Daly can. Written with lightning, he describes the night thusly.

"It would cause too much dissension in the LGBT community," Leno once told me after I encouraged him to think about running for Mayor against Newsom.

Funny.

The Milk Club endorsed Quintin Mecke without too much fanfare. But tonight's showdown between Leno and Migden felt like a street brawl.
