Tens of thousands of revelers flooded the Mission this weekend for the epic Carnaval Parade and Festival, which was themed "Live Your Fantasy" this year.

In addition to Ted Weinstein's fun shots, we bring you even more images of Sunday's Carnaval “Colors Of Sound, Splashes Of Culture" bash in the Mission...
Updated: Unconfirmed Shooting at 24th and Shotwell Tonight
[Update: Mission Local has the story.] A tipster reports that someone was shot tonight at 24th and Shotwell after the Carnaval festivities. Witnesses said the person had been shot in the face, and ambulances and squad cars were on the scene. We can't find any reports of the incident. Anyone else see it happen?
Carnaval!
It's Carnaval time, and this year the weather gods have decided to celebrate, too. So get thee to the Mission for the street festival today and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm -- with street food, live music, face painting, low riders, more street food, and those *awesome* State Farm and Verizon booths -- and then the Grand Parade starting Sunday morning at 9:30 am. More pictures here.
Mission Neighborhood Centers in Trouble
The Mission Neighborhood Centers, Inc., one of the oldest nonprofits in the neighborhood, which is responsible for putting together the annual Carnaval and Cinco De Mayo festivals, along with many other invaluable programs, is at risk of losing half of its federal grants, due to poor accounting, financial strains, and accumulating debt caused by the organization's growing too fast in recent years for its overworked and underpaid staff to handle. Additionally, there was a loan renegotiation with Wells Fargo that threw the organization further into a downward spiral.
Photos from Carnaval Parade
Despite the searing chill in the air, the annual Carnaval festival in the Mission was a vibrant smash. Noted photog Ted Weinstein captured the color and glorious garishness of yesterday's Carnaval parade. (Seriously, these are some amazing images Weinstein snapped up.)
Carnaval and Other Weekend Events
We have the annual Carnaval shaking up the Mission District on Saturday and Sunday. The Festival runs both days on Harrison St between 16th & 22nd St from 10 a.m. to 6p.m. The Parade is on Sunday, starting at 9:30 a.m. at 24th & Harrison, going west along 24th St, then turning up Mission all the way to 17th St. Check out the Entertainment Line-up for both days.
