...And that's not even the curviest part! A car chase that started in Marin County around 3:00 a.m. Monday morning ended abruptly when the driver, speeding at around 75 mph over the Golden Gate Bridge, overshot the turn from Doyle Drive onto Lombard Street and flipped over. A open fifth of Hennessey was found in the car, and the passengers are in SF General with non-fatal injuries.
Incident at New Montgomery and Mission Today
Re: commotion at New Montgomery and Mission earlier today
Shooting on Polk Street
It's not clear what happened, but earlier today around 10:30 or so there was some sort of combination of car crash and shooting that snarled up traffic and sent a bunch of people to the hospital.
Day Around the Bay
-On a cold, wintery afternoon that probably matched how A's fans are feeling right now, the A's went down to the Tigers 3-0 to now be down in the series 3-0. It happens every year in baseball come playoff time-- one team gets in explicably hot and can do no wrong (the '02 Angels, the '03 Marlins, the '04 and '05 Sox) and that this year is the Tigers. The A's, meanwhile, appear to be in that vicious playoff cycle in which hitting becomes almost impossible so the team presses and makes hitting even that much more impossible. Yeah, it's not over til it's over and the '04 Red Sox famously came from behind by an 0-3 margin, but....
Gavin Gets Tough on Crime
In response to all the killing going on around here, Gavin has finally come up with a solution-- enforce laws passed years ago. The law? A curfew for children under 13 between midnight and 5 AM, a law that was passed in 1990. Actually, that's not all of it. The measure will also increase police presence in crime-riddle neighborhoods and will send authorities to the homes of school-cutting scofflaws. All of this was announced after huddling with aides, judges, probation officers, and police.

You know how GoldenPalace.com is buying everything weird for publicity? Like the grilled cheese sandwich with the Virgin Mary on it, or hiring streakers? (Their list of auctions is some pretty entertaining reading.) Well, they were stymied in their attempt to purchase Jerry Garcia's toilet -- after paying $2550 for the pink-colored throne, it was stolen, along with three other toilets and a bidet, from the current owner's driveway. Golden Palace is offering a $5000 reward for its return. Wonder if Golden Palace staged this whole thing?
In San Anselmo, a 16-year-old is so upset about the theft of her bichon frise that her parents have allowed her to stay home from school today. She and her mother were at the DMV applying for her learners' permit, and they'd left the bichon in the car for about 20 minutes. When they came back, someone had opened the door to their Saab (whose locks were broken) and taken the dog. They paid $850 for the dog, which was a present for the daughter's 14th birthday. He's white with brown markings around the eyes, and answers to Napoleon -- if you see him, call the CHP at 415-924-1100 or page Mom at 415-258-5080.
And yipes! A car chase that began on 18th and Mission last night raced onto the highway and culminated in a dramatic crash on Treasure Island. The driver repeatedly rammed his car into the cop cars, injuring two officers. Officers then fired at the car, injuring two riders. A third passenger was injured in one of the ramming incidents.

We really do feel pretty bad for the poor Berkeley high schooler who tried to throw a little house party while her parents were away and ended up with around 100 people at her place and a guy from another school stabbed to death over a skateboard. Her mistake? Putting up a post about the party on MySpace. (We heard that last bit on KRON 4 news but can't find it confirmed in print anywhere.)
The Examiner starts running an online Police Blotter for the South Bay. So good. Items include: a man who called the cops to "arbitrate" a dispute at the South City Papa Joe's because he forgot his wallet and couldn't pay for his meal; a Redwood City woman cutting her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend with a car key, and the robbery of two bottles of Red Bull from a convenience store on Willow Road (the obligatory joke about it giving you wings was made as well.)
And a car chase went bad last night, as a person fleeing the cops in a stolen VW Beetle lost control and spun into a Honda as he ran through a red light at Fifth and Brannan. The Honda plowed into the Golden Gate Tennis Club, and the Beetle ran into a fire hydrant, sending water pouring into the air. The cops caught the Beetle driver trying to hide in the tennis club.
SFist Watches: TV This Week
SFist knows that some good movies have been shot in the city. But damned if they ever seem to run them on TV. At least, not on the basic cable we're set up with.
SFist Watches: TV This Week
It looks like Indian summer may be over for good what with the wind and the rain and the whining about the wind and the rain. So SFist recommends that you stay indoors and enjoy some of San Francisco's local landmarks on the small screen.
