Adding insult to tragedy, and making us curse this coarse and immoral world we live in, the home of the Maloney family -- who were killed this weekend in that fatal collision with the MINI Cooper in Sonoma -- was broken into early Tuesday and robbed by two asswipes who proceeded to drive the family's Nissan 350Z to rural San Mateo County and try to use a stolen credit card to shop. The asswipes in question are Amber True and her boyfriend Michael Gutierrez, and they are currently being held in Sonoma County jail on $500,000 bail.

Dead MINI Cooper Driving Teen Had Previous DUI
Here at right is the dumb, now dead kid who is responsible for the vehicular manslaughter of that family of four on their way home from a Thanksgiving vacation on Saturday. It turns out, like many teens, 19-year-old Steven Culbertson of Lake County had a previous crash on his record, and a DUI caused his license to be suspended two years back, when he was 17. Many commenters have noted that this case calls to question things like installing parental speed controls in cars, and whether teens, regardless of their status as adults at age 18, should even be allowed to drive cars. Obviously, this is just a sad, sad situation, and a tragedy, and short of shackling all rebellious teens in basements we're not sure that there is a broad, generalized solution that would have avoided this. But yes, perhaps this particular nineteen-year-old was not yet enough of a grown-up to have his own car -- and that intersection at Hwy 37 and Lakeville Hwy probably needs to be re-engineered.
Scary Bay Bridge S-Curve Getting New Signage
CalTrans has apparently been taken by surprise by how difficult Bay Area commuters (and Safeway delivery trucks) are finding it to navigate that new S-curve on the Bay Bridge. Following on that unfortunate grocery spillage last week, and following on 20 total accidents since the S-curve was added on Labor Day, they're committing to putting up big new signs that emphasize the slowing from 50 m.p.h. to 40 m.p.h. We ourselves have driven over it several times and had no trouble, but certainly no one wants to be driving defensively while going 50 m.p.h. around a curve. So for god's sake people, slow down! Oakand's not going anywhere!
Car Rams Into Pedestrians In The Sunset
A Honda hybrid, it seems, "[c]lobbered a few pedestrians and stopped the N for a bit in both directions" this morning at 7th Avenue and Irving.
