We can only hope that every single news outlet has printed a typo when reporting the amount of cash the United States is sending Peru, which is still experiencing severe aftershocks. As the death toll climbs past 500, with more than 1,500 reported injuries, the United States government has pledged a whopping $100,000 in support. Why don’t we just send America’s Player, Eric (with his oh-so-attractive pierced nipples) from Big Brother to help them......

So, we just got word today that our passport application has been approved and that our new passport is (allegedly) in the mail. We’ve been sitting here sweating bullets for the past two weeks wondering when or if we were ever going to receive our passport. You hear so many horror stories these days about screwed up travel plans and missed trips because of the severe delay in passport processing. We practically have to......

In all the marches in of the cities in all the world, a march to City Hall is taking place today for one of the most noble causes in San Francisco to date. 100 or so golfers will be marching to the Board of Supervisors meeting to demand their voices be heard on the topic of shutting down public courses in the city. 100 golfers – wow. Is Van Ness wide enough to handle......

We (sort of) hate to say "we told you so," but it looks like our obsession with the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association's focus on trash cans was just the tip of the iceberg on the garbage can tip. At the August 6th meeting of the SNA, which we regretfully were unable to attend due to a prior commitment (sorry, mariconsoy), details were outlined for trash can offenders. Residents across the city, not just in the......

PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support) is celebrating its china anniversary this year, with a celebration on Saturday at AT&T Park before the 1p.m. game. It’s hard to believe that this organization, which provides numerous services to low-income San Franciscans’ with HIV/AIDS and other disabling illnesses, has been around for 20 whole years. PAWS staff and volunteers do lots of stuff to help people keep and care for their adored pets. There’s dog walking, cat......

Tonight at City Hall, three men are being honored for 1) attacking an attacker, 2) chasing said attacker, and 3) coming to the aid of the attacked. Remember in May when a teenage girl was randomly attacked with a knife in a bakery by some loser who got out of San Quentin the day before? Well, that happened in our part of the city, where not much usually happens. Have you ever heard of Miraloma......

Apparently, the bottled water industry is ticked off at Gavin Newsom for banning bottled water at City Hall. Many believe that what it takes to produce, distribute, and recycle water bottles is wasteful when you think about all that fine drinking water that’s there for the taking from Hetch Hetchy. Joe Doss of the International Bottled Water Association argues, “The amount of resin needed to make the bottled water containers has been reduced by......

So, yesterday morning we had a rare two hours to kill – the S.O. was out playing tennis and nothing good was happening on the BB live feeds. Why not head over to Bernal and get that mani/pedi we’ve been meaning to get for the last two months? We got in the car and headed over to our favorite, most reliable salon, where the instruments are clean, the prices can’t be beat, and there’s......

Uh oh. Looks like another fixer-upper in Sunnyside has been snatched up by an eager buyer. A 3-bedroom home in San Francisco listed at the bargain price of $399,000 is now "in contract." Just like the house that collapsed on Mangels in May, this house on Monterey is cute as a button…on the outside. And since the listing states "Contractor Special/Fixer. Needs everything," we’re guessing it’s just as crappy and unsafe as the Mangels......

You’ve been paying $1.25 for bottled tap water…sucker! Reuters reports that PepsiCo Inc. will now actually inform consumers what they’re shelling out their health-conscious and ever-hydrated bucks for -- bottled tap water, or, according to PepsiCo, stuff from a "Public Water Source." Now, this gets us thinking about gas prices and how much we bitch and moan about $3.31/gallon down at the Chevron station. We‘re Talking Barbie when it comes to math, and I......
