The premise of the movie is that a famous Jewish acting professor, Adolf Grunwald, sent to a concentration camp in World War II, is summoned by Joseph Goebbels to coach a depressed and lackluster Adolf Hilter through a January 1944 speech in the bombed-out Berlin. Pretty much no fascist joke is unspared in the unnervingly-hilarious script, which in short order mocks the German love of paperwork, the Nazi salute, Hitler's bed-wetting and poor sexual prowess, and features the Fuhrer being humped by a dog to boot. Kind of like Hogan's Heroes, as written by Borat.

Along the way, the movie takes a thoughtful turn towards tougher questions of complicity and personal integrity, while also barreling through a mildly-convoluted and entertainingly-unrealistic plot towards its inevitable conclusion. (Spoiler! Hitler lives to lose the war.) What we particularly liked about the movie was that even while exploring the various sadnesses in his pathetic Fuhrer character's life, writer/director Dani Levy (who won this year's SFJFF Freedom of Expression Award) never allows you to feel bad for Hitler in any way.

Abram Wilson talks about being a black man in the 'burbs. East Bay Oscar for Best Supporting Actress goes to Luenell, the Castro Valley High School alumna who played the prostitute in Borat. Watch out for Diablo's traffic jam webcam at the I-680 at Highway 24 Interchange. That totally reminds us of that dude in Smoke Signals.

Next, San Francisco Magazine: Cover article: The SF skyline in 2020. The scoop on where we might be living in the next decade – Mission Bay will be the new “urban burb,” the Transbay area is “SoMish,” and Rincon Hill just keeps getting higher. The women in question, Estrella Benavides, says she doesn't actually hear the voice of God telling her to do something, but instead just gets a feeling of what He wants her to say. If we were in her shoes, we'd use that power to "feel" who God is going to have win the Superbowl, but that's just us. She's claiming freedom of speech and all that but the city council is saying it's a nuisance and coming up with all sorts of ordinances to try and put an end to it. She has, however, agreed to no longer broadcast messages out of a loud speaker she installed on her car.

The fun part of the story isn't necessarily her, but the reactions to her by her neighbors. All are unfaingly polite and try to go out of their way to say nice things about her, despite the fact that it's clear she's completely bat-shit crazy. It's almost a Borat-like thing where she presses the envelope on crazy and her neighbors are too worried about being impolite to really do something that they're probably all thinking deep down inside.

KTVU, which is where we got the image from, has a slide show of the craziness.

Anyhoo, the winner for best picture is Little Children and no, it's not the prequel to "Little Woman." It's a movie that was out for a bout a week, starring Kate Winslet about people making sexy time in the suburbs. In fact, from what we read, it was a movie about alienation and angst in suburbia and you never see enough of those kind of movies. Also from that movie, Jackie Earle Haley won for Best Supporting Actor for playing a child molester and we think that's awesome just because he played the immortal Kelly Leak in the Bad News Bears. Could this mean we could be years away from an award going to the guy who played Tanner?

Also of note, the winner of the Best Actor award is Mr. Borat himself, Sacha Baron Cohen. A lot of people seem to think he's Best Actor material mainly because he never dropped out of his character at any point in the movie. Plus, people who go out of their way to do sacrifice something for the movie-- play ugly, gain weight,etc.-- always seem to get award nominations and we can't think of anyone who sacrificed more for any movie considering he wrestled naked with that big, fat hairy dude. Talk about going all out for the movie.

Niners 9, Vikings 3-- In all honesty, we didn't watch any of this game. We went to see Borat instead. And you know what we thought of the movie? It was fine but we're a little concerned in that for the next month or so ,everyone will be going around saying "high five" or "very nice" or even "va-GINA" in that faux-accent of his. Fear it. You want to know why we think David Chappelle went crazy? Because everywhere he went, every white guy would go up to him and either say "I'm Rick James, bitch" or the L'il Jon impression. It would drive anyone crazy. We're pretty sure the Bush administration uses it at Guantanomo.

Oh yeah, the game. After pretty much being insulted and vilified by everyone for sucking the big suck, the Niners D came up big. They held the Vikes TD-less, sacked Vikes QB three times, and held the Vikes to a measly 238 yards. Very nice. Oh Giod-- even we can't stop it. The D even held as the Vikings rallied with two-minutes less. Unfortunately, the O wasn't so good as they only got 133 yards.

God, this game sounded boring.

On a side note, we dug the throw-back unis and wish the Niners went back to wearing those outfits. Anyone else notice the team hasn't been the same since they switched?

Phillyist is concerned that the war on Trans fats could affect it's beloved cheese steak sandwiches, something for which we should all be concerned. They also seem to be concerned about which subterranean creature could be responsible for a bunch of underground explosions. Also of interest is a Quest for the Holy Grail Benefit Bike Race! which just sounds like an awesome idea but do people actually ride bikes or do they pretend to while somebody walks behind them hitting a cocoanut?

Torontoist ponders a blogger who is trying to take a picture of every damn building in the city and the incompetence of the Toronto Port Authority. They also turn to bigger issues and interview the new leader of Canada's Green Party and debate whether it's okay to diss their own city. Do Canadians diss anyone?

DCist meanwhile has a lot of visitors on their minds, especially Borat of Kazakhstan who was all over the city. Not as exciting, but more of a hassle was the appearance of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and his motorcade. Thanks to DCist, if either of them visited a restaurant, they would have learned a lot about how the heirarchy of restaurant tipping and whether to tip or not.

LAist, however, is more concerned with things feminine as they pondered a feminine dye product and how does one get a date to end. They also interview mysterious blogger LA City Nerd.

Chicagoist ponders why everyone still thinks the city is gangsta and where to get the best cocktail. They also have lots of Susie Oprah news, and crow a little bit over the fact two Chicago roasters won "Roasters of the Year" awards. Suck it, Seattlest.

Bostonist ponders the fact two other tunnels now need work and if it's possible to survive without Google for a day (stupid Comcast). With the elections coming up on us, they detail the Gubernatorial debate, featuring a question by Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's wife who apparently isn't registered to vote in the state.

Over in the Lone Star State, Houstonist celebrates the fact that the Space Center made it to on the new Monopoly board and that Houston is is going to the dogs. Fortunately for Houstinist, Jesus is too-- he is, in fact, moving to the 'burbs where he could hang out with pastor Joel Osteen and his bitchy wife.

Austinist isn't quite feeling the religious vibes, but is feeling the vibe of a Howard Dean visit and Austin City Limits being called the best music show on TV. Meanwhile, the county won't pay for weight reduction surgery anymore so it makes it that much greater a car share service will be set up. And while a historic landmark is getting knocked down, the Austin Film Festival is getting ready.

Gothamist has a taping scandal not involving a high-tech company but the Attorney General and his wife. Which isn't nearly as messed up as something a real-estate broker does (it involves both Satan and poop and do you really need anything else to know whether a story is awesome or not?). And speaking of bad behavior, they also contemplate their public transportation pet peeves.

Which, in a way, is also what SFist is up to this week as they listed some of theirs too. In fact, public transportation weighed heavily this week as their Mayor whines about the public transportation in his town. Elsewhere, their Green Candidate for Congress dances and squirrels attack!

Overseas, Shanghaist missed a track meet but went to the after-party that looked way too cool for something involving track and field and went to a jazz concert where hopefully they went used one of Shanghai's most romantic Metro spots to find love. Not finding love are several political types who ran into all sorts of trouble for a pension scam and all sorts of other nefarious acts. Politicians being arrested for wrongdoing, what is the world coming to?

Parisist, meanwhile, pondered about the beauty of break dancing, how to breathe in all of those smoky French cafes, and all the wonderful Parisian blogs (French version here, bad Google translated version here).
