If you've noticed over the past couple of days, it's smells a bit smoky, a bit ashy in Baghdad by the Bay. It seems, according to CBS 5, Northern California is suffering from about 950 wildfire right now.The top half of the state is, in essence, on fire. Yikes! So far, Carmel Valley residents have been forced from their homes due to the massive blaze in the Los Padres National Forest over in Monterey......

Last night's five-alarm wildfire in the San Bruno Mountains, which threatened homes in South San Francisco, has been 75 percent as of this morning. The crisp weather and fog -- which has mercifully killed this past weekend's vile heatwave -- has helped firefighters attack the blaze successfully. A total of 300 acres have been scorched so far. Brisbane residents who were asked to evacuate their home were allowed to return just before midnight last......

A wildfire on San Bruno Mountain may threaten some homes on the South side of the mountain along Sister Cities Blvd tonight. These shots, taken by a reader on Drake Avenue (across Hillside) at around 8:35 p.m., show the fire heading close to South SF as "numerous firetrucks rush[ed] to the scene along with several helicopters on hand to battle the flames from the air." The area is a new development of million dollar homes and are "in the line of fire."...

Last night's show at the Fillmore was on fire. Literally. Before headliners Dethklok hit the stage, an electrical fire was "sparked during Soilent Green's opening set," according to SF Weekly. Fans were ushered out of the building posthaste. Yikes. Sadly, Dethklok couldn't go on, and the show was canceled. Dethklok's MySpace page breaks the news to their fans: SF Show at the FILLMORE CANCELLED BECAUSE OF FIRE: Last night June 6th a small electrical......

Just weeks after a mysteriously underreported fire set the top of AT&T Park ablaze, a one-alarm fire inside the San Francisco Giants Dugout Store at AT&T Park sparked late last night. Fire department sleuths haven't figured out yet just what started the fire, but merchandise like t-shirts, bobble heads, and teeny tiny bats were charred. Maybe the park has its very own arsonist? That would be exciting. At left: did not burn. Alas.......

Looks like there was, in fact, a blaze at AT&T Park last night. And a sizable one at that. SFist reader Ted (i.e., phish223) sent in this on-the scene shot of the fiery action. Read more about it here.......

Another fire hit the Mission District, but this time no one was displaced or injured. It seems that Giant's Jewelers on 24th Street (between South Van Ness and Capp, next to the Napper Tandy) caught fire. Photog Chris Brennan captured the awful brilliance of firefighters arriving at the scene, the welding of axes and ladders (just like they do in cartoons!), and virile men fighting the blaze. Fortunately, no one was hurt, save for some sparkling gems, but check out Brennan's superb shots of the fiery action....

photo credit: 37 °C Last night's four-alarm fire at Valencia and 25th/26th Streets roared for two long hours, brought the Dovre Club's St. Paddy's Day revelry to a halt, and left 59 people temporarily homeless. Over 130 firefighters were on the scene, and only two people suffered minor injuries. Whew. While the cause of the fire is still unknown and scared many Mission residents, it did bring out the inner photojournalist inside many of......

After last night's fire in the Mission displaced over 50 San Franciscans, an early morning East Oakland blaze at 2640 74th Avenue proved fatal, killing two men. It seems that the two died during a botched rescue attempt. The first victim "fled the fire along with other occupants of the house. But the man apparently rushed back into the house in an attempt to rescue the other man," Oakland Police Sgt. Barry Donelan tells......
