- Paul Auster: Sure, metafictionist Auster wrote the screenplays to Smoke, Blue in the Face, and The Brooklyn Follies, but he also penned the phenomenal collection of PoMo detective-fiction tales, The New York Trilogy, his best work to date. Auster appears live with San Francisco International Film Festival Director Graham Leggat after a screening of his latest film, for this evening.

The BAGeL Radio 4th Birthday Party was a blast last Thursday, with great music, cupcakes and even a reunion with one of our childhood best friends who we hadn't seen since we were three and a half feet tall. We saw great sets by Birdmonster and Division Day (unfortunately we missed Two Seconds) and a good time was had by all. Despite the fact that we killed BAGeL Radio for about five full minutes during our debut radio show last week (damn DRM), for some reason Ted still wants us around and our second show airs today at 4pm. Tune if you dare!
Gavin sez: "I can't wait for the SFist 2nd Birthday Party tonight!"
When they make the SFist movie (or afterschool special), we want BAGeL Radio's music director Ted Leibowitz to provide the soundtrack. (And to prove to you that we really, really mean this, we'll point out that he'll be DJing our IndieFest parties this and next Fridays.)
You know the part of an episode of "Sex and the City" where SJP says, "and that's when I realized, in a city where "? It's like, you're been cruising along, enjoying a nice little episode, and then Carrie ruins things by telling you how her incredibly profound life is a brilliant slice of The Human Condition. God, Carrie's so irritating.
Sitting on your ass for hours and hours is hard work but we're willing to make that sacrifice to bring you another review from Cinequest. Yesterday we saw a screening of Stephen Tobolowsky's Birthday Party.
We've already broken our New Year's resolution to not be late anymore, but we can still rally to see more live music in '05. Things remain a bit askew during this first week of January (holiday parties are still happening?) but there are many musical options if you need to get out and about. Or as those kooky Canadians like to say, oot and aboot.
