The weather is lovely this time of year. Which means even the casual cyclists are rolling up one pant leg and getting out there to push the pedals. So it make sense that the city should have a few bike-related events happening all this week. On the calendar: a popup bike shop from Levi's, the return of New Belgium Brewing Company's Tour de Fat and a bike-based rally for sustainability. Observe:

Critical Mass Tonight; We're Taking a Poll
We here at SFist HQ always want to know your thoughts on the marquee issues facing our fair city. And today, seeing as it is another last Friday and therefore another occasion for everyone's favorite bicycle parade Critical Mass, we thought we'd do a poll. How do you really feel about the whole institution? Is it a fun spectacle that you welcome like every full moon, or is it simply a pain in the ass of everyone who isn't participating? Back in May our commenting community went nuts over the issue of charging Critical Mass organizers for a permit, so let's see how you guys feel given the three options below.
Bicycle Film Festival, Tonight Through Sunday
The ninth annual Bicycle Film Festival begins with a stellar Bikes Rock show tonight and tomorrow night at the Independent, featuring performances by Blonde Redhead and Thee Oh Sees, followed by an after-party at 330 Ritch tomorrow night. Although advance tickets to Bikes Rock are sold out, they might become available at the door. Thursday will be dedicated to art with Joyride at Ever Gold and Market Street Gallery, and an after-party at the Cellar.
Behind the Scenes at Muni During Outside Lands
We all had a great time piling on Muni last weekend, foaming and ranting about service to and from the park. But what was going on behind the scenes? We asked Muni how they strategized their service around Outside Lands. Here's what they had to say:
Critical Mass Gets Uglier in Seattle
In cyberspace, "trolling" is when someone posts a deliberately controversial comment, not because they really wanted to say it but because they wanted to provoke an angry, emotional response from strangers -- kind of the online equivalent of insulting someone's girlfriend in a bar, or heckling a comedian, or snapping your towel at someone in the locker room.
Carless Sunday to be Carless Market Street?
Inspired by Gavin's plan to close the Embarcadero to traffic two weekends later this summer, Chris Daly decided to see Gavin's plan and raise him a street or two by proposing that Market Street should be closed to cars from Octavia to the Embarcadero. The only sort of traffic allowed will be buses, taxis, delivery trucks and a few other very important vehicular thingies. The reasons for it include helping MUNI buses move freely, getting more people out of cars and onto pub trans or bikes, helping save the environment, and because it’s kinda a cool idea (see, most every city that is considered world class). Also, as everybody knows, driving down Market Street is kinda impossible anyways so why not?
Carless Sundays Not Complaintless
Last week, Gavin introduced plans to close down parts of the Embarcadero from the Bay View to Chinatown between from 9 AM to 1 PM on Aug. 31 and September 14 for some sort of car-free free free-for-all. Plans include everything from yoga to roller rinks to bikers biking and a whole lot more for those seeing some frolicking. Good idea, right?
Complaints to commence in 3...2...1....
