We heard from the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition today that at the November 6th of the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, there was still no word on increased capacity for bicycles on Caltrain.

- Lucas (1986), Say Anything (1989), My Bloody Valentine (1981): The first film has socially-retarded Corey Haim falling head over heels in love with a sensitive football player, Charlie Sheen, or something like that; Cameron Crowe's tale of teenage love and angst has John Cusack causing egregious noise pollution when he holds up a ghettoblaster pumping out a Peter Gabriel ballad; and the final film has a murderer in a small coal mining town killing those who celebrate Valentine's Day. They screen at 7:30 p.m., 9:45, and midnight, respectively, at the Castro Theatre; $6-9.
- Editors: Yeah, yeah. We screwed up. Again. The SSRIs are running low this week. Stupid shrink. Anyway, check out this English indie rock band along hipster favorites Hot Hot Heat and Louis XIV. Music starts at 8 p.m. at the Warfield; $23.
- The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's Love on Wheels: As SFist Jim mentioned before, tonight's Dating Game parody in Hayes Valley should be divine. Starts at 7 p.m. at Rickshaw Stop; free for members of the SFBC ($10 for non-members).

Too real, if you ask us. Election night will soon fall upon the city like a blanket of darkness. But that doesn't mean you should celebrate or grieve alone. Ripping off Inspired by SFBG's Election Night Parties, we present to you SFist's...election night parties. Ta-da. -- Gavin Newsom's (Victory) Party: Pros: at the Ferry Building, the thrill of victory, Gavin's form Cons: at some point you will be snubbed by someone in the society...

As part of its campaign against Measure H, the SF Bicycle Coalition has notified us that there are more parking spaces than cars in San Francisco: our fair but congested city has "603,000 on-street and off-street parking spaces" but only "469,489 registered vehicles."
A hearing at City Hall on Monday, 7/9/07 regarding Octavia Blvd.
Photo and discussion of the news conference concerning ped and biker safety.
As we all know, cars are the worst things ever invented, and owning one makes you a terrorist. Fortunately, it's easy to go carless in SF -- we tearfully gave our beloved station wagon to KQED a few years ago, and the absence of insurance payments, repair bills, and gas stations made us feel like we'd won the lotto. The only catch: SF's delightfully idiosyncratic transit system has a bit of a learning curve, as you might've noticed.
Bike to Work Day in San Francisco is ongoing. Pictured is the ride of San Francisco Bicycle Coalition Program Director Andy "The Boss" Thornley, complete with large flag just for today. (Yes, that's the official City and County flag. It's hard to read the three words underneath the bird, but we think they spell out "Pontiac Trans Am".) Looks like Andy's inside City Hall right now pressing his case for cycling in the City. Details about where to get your canvas corporate swag bag on your ride home here and here. A quick report here.
This Friday will be Critical Mass and everybody is curious to see what happens, not the least of which is the Mayor who supposedly has a lot riding on it (see, riding, get it? Get it? We made a pun!). We are told that if things go wrong, it could reflect poorly on the Mayor as it will show that he is unable to control simple things like several hundred anarchist bikers out loose on the streets. Hey, wouldn't that discussion only encourage bikers? You know, like a biker would start thinking "hey, if I scare some poor, unsuspecting family from Walnut Creek, Gavin's approval rating could go down to 60%."
It's not just cars mucking up sidewalks that's turning into a concern lately, it's bikers and skateboarders too. Or so says the Senior Action Network who have been starting up a campaign, the "Sidewalks are for Pedestrians" campaign, to try and help Grandpa and Grandma Simpson get from here to there without having to get by dastardly two-wheelers. Or stop getting beat up by them.
Day II after the Critical Mass incident, we're seeing the bikers weigh in with their version of what happened and also some thoughts on the matter from Gavin. We're also seeing a lot of hate out there thrown in every direction as the war between bikers and car drivers is one of the hottest of hot button issues in this city.
Photos and discussion of the dangerous Octavia/Market intersection.
Early Monday morning, a biker was hit by some guy making an illegal right turn onto Highway 101 from Market Street at the Octavia intersection. The driver is in serious condition.
Saturday: The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's Tour de Fat runs from 11-5 today at Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park. The event is described as "Two parts bike rodeo and one part circus", and is free, free free.
We here at SFist run the gamut from happily single to partnered up to polyamorous, but we all agree that there's something to that whole "love" thing. That's why we're happy to be partnering with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and Single Exposure (formerly Shooting Singles) for "Love on Wheels" tonight from 6-9 at Cafe du Nord.
Yo mountain bikers, looking for a little action this winter? If you've got the firepower, check out the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's Dirty Harry Bike Tour (not affiliated with the Dirty Harry Tour of San Francisco) on Saturday, January 28. Do ya feel lucky? Well, do yah punks?
Wow, it's a gorgeous day today, the kind of day that makes us appreciate leaving the freezing Midwest for consistency of the Bay Area.
Aeolian Ride comes to SF!
