Did you know it's swarming season for bees right now?!?! Those of us who don't live in the country maybe don't have to worry quite so much, but with all the various rooftop hives that hobbyists have installed around town lately, maybe we should! An elementary school in Vacaville was "briefly invaded by tens of thousands of bees" on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a rescue response by professional beekeepers.
Vacaville School Terrorized By Huge Swarm Of Bees
Meanwhile, at the Chronicle Building...
Treehugger scribe and occasional SFist contributor Jerry James Stone and Meredith May kick in atop the Chronicle Building at Fifth and Mission and frolic with the bees. Sweet.
What Would You Name the Chronicle's Artisan Honey?
In an Inside Scoop post today, Chronicle food critic and man-of-impeccable-taste, Michael Bauer proves he's only in it for the honey. In a partnership with the Marin Bee Company and the paper's Home & Garden section, Bauer's Food & Wine team have selflessly adopted a few colonies of bees whose population is currently "in crisis" (something to do with the world ending in 2012, or maybe just a cold winter in Southern California). Let's hope they fare better than the sabotaged Hayes Valley bee farm.

Picture taken outside Hayes Valley Farms. Earlier this week, the farm lost over 200,000 bees after someone doused pesticide over several colonies.
Meet the Bees (Some of Them Now Dead) of Hayes Valley Farm
Yesterday, Haighteration broke news that someone had used pesticide to kill tens of thousands of bees at the Hayes Valley Farm sometime between Monday July 19 and Tuesday July 20. The culprit(s) sprayed two colonies and attempted to douse a third.
Will Fetch Your Swarm of Bees
Spider Monkey found this cute flyer in West Berkeley and sent it to us via the SFist Contribute page. We wonder if they'd come all the way to the Mission for a swarm of bees.
Swarm of Bees Attacks the Mission
Holy smokes, this is the most harrowing thing we've ever reported. Allan Hough over at Mission Mission reports (via Inhabitat's Mike Chino) that bees have descended upon the Mission district. And they're out for blood! Check it:
Swarm of Bees Snarls Highway 99 In Sacramento
Yesterday in Sacramento a flatbed truck carrying 8-to-12 million bees flipped over and released a swarm over the highway, effectively shutting down. The bees, heading over to Washington after being used in the San Joaquin Valley for crop pollination, stung "officers, firefighters, and tow truck drivers" who were assisting getting the roads cleared.
