Take, for example, David Maldonado, 21, who was arrested on Monday night, charged with aggravated assault after attacking a Muni driver with a fire extinguisher. Occurring at Fisherman’s Wharf on the F-line, the unidentified driver was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Some sort of heated argument between the two, it seems, turned physical. Ugh. Anyway, there have been 67 reported assaults against Muni operators in 2008 so far. Ack. Stay safe, Muni drivers. Located at 1450 Laguna Street, the consulate wasn't affected too much, but its roll up garage door on Geary Street, it seems, was burned.

While no one knows exactly why the building was targeted, fire department Lt. Mindy Talmadge tells the Gate that "[t]he Arson Task Force is investigating this and of course it's a high profile building, so I'm sure the consulate will have some other agencies involved."

Update: NBC 11 says that "[i]Investigators suspect the building was targeted in connection with recent protests in Tibet where citizens are pushing for independence from China." No one was injured during the early morning incident.
