Mary Jamis, 52, a lesbian who attempted to obtain a marriage license in North Carolina on Thursday, was arrested along with a heterosexual friend for refusing to leave a government office. Several other gay couples showed up that day in an attempt to get marriage licenses too. It was all part of a protest following the passage of the state's Amendment One, a ban that not only bars gay marriages but any type of civil union. more ›

Arrests Made in Shooting of 11-Year-Old Girl Struck by Stray Bullet

An 11-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet in the Western Addition late Friday night during gunfire that resulted from an argument amongst some nearby teens, reports Bay City News. According to the Chronicle, the girl was at a sleepover at her cousin's house at Turk and Laguna when a bullet came threw a window, struck her in the heart, and passed through her body. She was taken to SF General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and has remained in life-threatening condition as of about Noon Sunday. more ›

Garbage Bag Murder Suspect Allegedly Confessed to the Killing

Feliciano Valencia-Santiago, the suspect arrested earlier this week on suspicion of murdering 46-year-old Maria Esther Orozco and leaving the evidence stuffed in a garbage bag, has allegedly confessed to the killing. According to court documents, Valencia-Santiago was hired as a day laborer to help Orozco clean up and move her belongings after her Sunnyvale home burned down in December. The day before her body was found, Orozco received 22 calls on her cellphone from the suspect, but the police report doesn't offer any info as to the nature of their relationship. more ›

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a Sacramento woman whose body was found burning in a car on Webster and Rose Streets (between Page and Haight) in the Haight on Sunday. "Almon Johnson was arrested in connection with the death of Vanessa Herrera, reports SF Chronicle. "Investigators suspect that Johnson killed Herrera in Sacramento and drove her body to Webster and Rose streets, then set fire to the 2000 Pontiac at 3:15 a.m. Monday." Man Beaten Near 6th and Mission

On Monday morning, a 25-year-old man was brutally beaten near the city's notorious Sixth and Mission intersection. "One of the suspects brandished a chrome revolver, a non-firing replica, and demanded the victim's cell phone.," BCN (via SF Appeal) reports. "The victim refused. Both suspects proceeded to punch and kick the victim." Cited for "disobeying a lawful order by a police officer and for jaywalking after they sat in the street in front of the hotel," 152 protesters were arrested at last night's Local 2 rally in front of the Grand Hyatt San Francisco hotel. Josue Gonzalez, 21, the pig at right, was arrested yesterday on a warrant for gang rape, kidnapping for a sex crime, and carjacking. Humberto Hernandez Salvador, 31, and two other teens (the 15- and 16-year-old creeps who went by "Paco" and "Blue) were arrested on Wednesday night for their involvement in last week's vicious hate crime. more ›

Two men were arrested in this week's savage beating death of Richard Weiland over at San Francisco's least favorite intersection, Turk and Taylor. In a day full of angry citizens locking themselves to large buildings, three students were also arrested this morning after chaining themselves to the entrance of the UCSF Mission Bay community center. It seems that they're hot and bothered over the UC Regents for a myriad of reasons, but mainly because of "fee hikes, the use of the SAT exam in student admissions, UC management of nuclear-weapons laboratories, and what they called the university's lack of diversity."
