In the land of the 408, there will soon be a lot of 669s running around. And for those who already have a claim on a 408 number, they may just find it switched to the new area code, as so many cell phones down Silicon Valley way have used up all the 408s. As the Mercury News reports, the Orwellian-sounding North American Numbering Plan Administration, or NANPA, and the California Public Utilities Commission have yet to decide whether the 408 area code will be split, with some people losing their existing area code, or whether there will be an "overlay" allowing people to keep their 408s. The change will take place by the end of 2012.
