The Chron made the rare move of trying to see the plight of vandalizing anarchists from their side of things today, but the story still ends up being an indictment of them as "Marin County trust-fund types" who just opportunistically appear at rallies so they can break stuff. That quote comes from Mitchell Langon, one of the managers of a sort of Riots 'R' Us store in the East Bay known as Berkeley Surplus. He doesn't seem too fond of these "types," but he sells them their black bandannas and gas masks nonetheless.

Although the Occupy Movement has emphatically preached peaceful non-violence during strikes and demonstrations, as we saw yesterday "anarchist groups" and fringe factions that take a different approach to the unrest are a growing problem in Oakland. In the video below, posted by investigative journalism group Wake Up USA, peaceful protesters attempting to prevent violence at the Whole Foods at 27th and Harrison in Oakland with a group of Black Bloc demonstrators while they attempt to vandalize and destroy property at the store.

If the scene we observed Tuesday evening was any indication, even the mothers with small children who frequent the park solely for wholesome jungle-gym purposes share something in common with the rowdy PBR-swilling, fixie-stacking folks to the north, who are fond of anarchist graffiti. They totally cut a hole in the fence within like 24 hours (not visible, at right), and then just went ahead and mowed down a section of the fence so they could get back in!
