There was something vaguely unsettling about watching SFIFF’s presentation of Alfred Hitchcock’s silent film, Blackmail, with live accompaniment by the Alloy Orchestra. Alloy's gained some renown for composing and performing new scores for silent films, and a crowd of eager moviegoers started gathering at the Palace of Fine Arts Theater even before the box office staff was in place (much to the alarm of what few staff members were there).
