, on Hugo Chavez and Latin America), and music by the Kronos Quartet. The event is a benefit for the Media Alliance, which is celebrating 30 years of responsible left-wing media representation.

SFist Watches: Radio and Dogs This Week
SFist remembers where we were almost one year ago today. Spring was in the air. We were at war. There was an impending election ahead, and it felt like maybe, just maybe, come November, things would be different. And we finally had some left wing drones joining a radio dial populated by right wing drones! When Air America Radio launched on March 31st, 2004, we listened, eagerly. Of course, we couldn't actually listen to Air America Radio on the radio, because they didn't have a San Francisco affiliate at that point (the hell?) so we made do with some streaming Internet audio. And we continued to listen for months, and we got riled up about the state of the country, and the war, and the Democratic candidates, and then come November, we voted.
Psych!
What better way to celebrate the original Saturday night date of Britney Spears's nuptials than at feminist zine Bitch Magazine's release party for its latest issue, on the theme of Fake? The party kicks off at 9 Saturday night at the Mile High Club in Oakland.

Travel down memory lane to those days of yore when rap music could seriously be considered the "black CNN" and wearing a huge clock as a necklace was a fashion statement. Chuck D takes a break from "Air America" and Flava Flav takes a break from filming "Surreal Life 3" as they and the rest of the mighty Public Enemy brings tha noize for a show on September 3 at the Fillmore. If this event is as any good as one EssEffist saw way back in the day, it should be quite a show indeed (Humpty Hump of the Digital Underground stood right in front of us!).
It's hard to remember what it was like back then through our misty-colored "I Love the 80's" eyes, but there was a time when PE was the mightiest musical force that roamed the earth--a barrage of noise, beats, and incendiary lyrics that still pisses people off today. PE was the logical inheritor of the Clash's title as "The Only Band that Matters," and considering the times we live in, we need them now more than ever. Lemme Hear you Say Fight the Power.
