Remember that lady who was struck by an N-Judah on Irving Street earlier this year in January? The victim, Dina Gryn, lost part of her leg after the accident, so SF is ponying up a cool $2 million. While trying to cross Ninth Avenue on a green light, an outbound train smacked her, resulting in her partial leg amputation. Ouch. And to no one's surprise, the driver was probably at fault, so now she gets......

KTVU has some choice footage of last Saturday's Muni crash over on King Street near AT&T Park. Since major news networks inexplicably don't believe in the religion of Embedded Code, we are forced to link to it here. (Oh, and then you have to click on "RAW VIDEO: Watch Muni Surveillance Footage Shot On Trains Involved In Collision.") If some kind soul wants to upload or find us the same footage, YouTube- or Flickr......

Last Saturday's T-Third meets N-Judah collision might be, according to to investigators, might have been the result of a speeding Muni driver and/or someone chatting on their cell phone. KCBS reports: Investigators say one of the MUNI rail cars involved in a crash Saturday afternoon was speeding and the driver may have been talking on his cell phone. (...) MUNI says drivers are not allowed to talk on the phone while operating a vehicle.......

An astonishing twelve passengers were sent to the hospital on Saturday after a T-Third train slammed into the back of a two-car N-Judah. The accident happened near AT&T Park on King Street between Third and Fourth streets, and none of the injuries were life-threatening. Allegedly. But why the T-Third didn't stop is anyone's guess. As of now, Muni has no idea. When the trains are underground, the lines run are "run on an automated......

We received word this morning that a collision, possibly a motorcycle-meets-Muni accident, is blocking the T and K lines near Bayview. 511 has this to say: On Thursday, June 12th at 8:10am, MUNI reports a collision blocking the K/T line at 3rd and Evans Streets requiring motor coach shuttles between Fourth-King and Third-Evans until further notice. It seems a motorcycle, according to an SFist reader, allegedly "slid under a diesel truck blocking north bound......

A jackknifed big rig (do they ever do anything but jackknife?) carrying tons of diesel fuel on (the) 101 has shutdown the highway in both direction in Menlo Park. The accident happened just after 10 p.m. According to the Gate, "[t]hree northbound lanes and two southbound lanes are closed near the Marsh Road interchange, snarling traffic in both direction." So far four people have been injured. The extent of their injuries is not yet......

A San Francisco cyclist is "clinging to life" after they were hit by a pickup truck at a freeway off-ramp yesterday. In the heavy-traffic area of Bayshore Boulevard at the Cesar Chavez Street off-ramp, the unidentified bicyclist was hit while trying to cross several lanes of traffic at around 2:10 p.m. According to the Gate, he or she "is in critical condition with life-threatening head injuries at San Francisco General Hospital." The truck driver,......

Well, this is jarring. This morning at little before 11 a.m. at Pine and Battery a rather nasty accident happened. Reader Mike Miller sent SFist images and a brief report of the scene: Happened a little before 10:45 this morning….. other car involved was a red Mazda. Driver appeared OK, but they were treating him in the ambulance. Witnesses gave conflicting stories – one person said one of the cars was speeding the wrong......

A couple days after a woman was fatally stuck and killed by a 71-Haight-Noriega bus at Sixth and Market streets, a man was hit by a 12-Folsom bus (our favorite line!). According to CBS 5, the accident occurred around 8:50 a.m. this yesterday morning "when a 12-Folsom line bus leaving the Muni terminal turned from Howard Street onto Embarcadero and collided with another vehicle," which then resulted in a smack down with a passerby.......

Early this morning at 8:24 a.m., an "adult female" was struck a 60-foot 71-Haight-Noriega bus on Market and Sixth Streets. She was transported to SF General Hospital, where she later died. According to San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's press release:...

The name of the bicyclist killed yesterday has been released. He was Kirk Janes, founder of the American Flyer bike messenger service, and a well-known figure in the local bike messenger community. We like this quote from the Chronicle that describes the kind of guy he was: Janes had broken his hip while riding on Second Street last year and could have gone on disability from the state. Instead, he quit Speedway Delivery last......

Some of you may remember a couple of weeks ago, when we were on a Caltrain that struck and killed a woman near 22nd street. Well, we were on the train again this morning, and when we got on at mountain view, a very familiar voice came over the PA. "Ladies and gentlemen, we're sorry," said the voice. "But there has been a fatality involving a train ahead at Menlo Park, and we will be......

A "50 to 70 years old" was stuck by a Muni bus at around 2 p.m. today at Geary and Fillmore. It seems that a 38-Geary smacked the guy, and, according to the Gate, the bus was "traveling eastbound toward downtown [when it] struck the pedestrian...as he walked north on Fillmore Street." ...

Yesterday's accident on the Golden Gate Bridge, which resulted in a 10-car collision and the bridge shutting down for a couple of hours, was the result of a simple lane change gone awry. According to the California Highway Patrol, a "pickup truck veered into the path of another car traveling north, causing both vehicles to swerve into southbound traffic." And then all sorts of messy chaos ensued: cars went flying into on coming traffic, metal bent, a baby was hurt, a Honda Shadow flipped over, and more. Fortunately, and strangely, no one was killed. ...

All Southbound lanes are closed, and most northbound lanes are "moving very slowly" due to a motorcycle accident involving multiple cars on the Golden Gate Bridge this afternoon. Traffic is backed up to 19th Avenue according to CBS 5 (where Allen Martin had the unmitigated gall to interrupt The People's Court to tell us!) CHP advises motorists to expect big, long delays. Use alternate routes tonight, folks. Update: Six people are injured, one of......

Yesterday in Sacramento a flatbed truck carrying 8-to-12 million bees flipped over and released a swarm over the highway, effectively shutting down. The bees, heading over to Washington after being used in the San Joaquin Valley for crop pollination, stung "officers, firefighters, and tow truck drivers" who were assisting getting the roads cleared. Beekeepers had to be called in to "wrangle" the insects back into their crates and back on the truck. The highway......

Awhile back, Greg wrote that he didn't want The N Judah Chronicles to become the "let's all talk about people getting hurt and killed blog." Alas, the injury count seems to have gone up a tick today; Muni reports: There is no Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) service on the J-Church line between 16th and Church streets and San Jose and Ocean avenues due to an injury accident between an LRV and a pickup truck at......

Billion-dollar expansion work at Mineta San Jose International Airport came to a halt this morning after a 28-year-old construction worker's arms were severed below his elbows in an accident. Yikes. According to NBC 11, "the 28-year-old construction worker somehow became entangled in the equipment that drives long posts into the ground with quick movements, the San Jose Mercury News reported." It appears that the accident involved pile driving work for "a new roadway just......

At first, before reading this story, we were ready to shake our finger at the Vespa rider in question. Lord knows we worry about you kids. But it seems she wasn't at fault. You see, last night a 24-year-old San Francisco woman was put in the hospital with life-threatening injuries while riding a Vespa on South Van Ness Avenue. It seems that "a 1994 Honda Accord, which was traveling southbound, tried to make a......

At around 11:30 a.m. today at Digital Pre-Press International (DPI), located at Mariposa and Minnesota, a woman died while on the clock. It seems she "became enmeshed in the massive piece of equipment" at the San Francisco-based printing press. SFFD Lt. Ken Smith told CBS 5 that although his crew was successful "extricating her from the machine," she failed to recover from injuries sustained in the accident. As of now it is unclear as......

A PG&E plant in the process of being torn down collapsed and killed a worker and injured two others today. Earlier this afternoon in an abandoned Pacific Gas and Electric Co. power plant in Bayview-Hunter's Point, workers who had been hired by the utility leviathan to remove the large boiler "had tied cables to the boiler, but it collapsed prematurely, raining debris down upon the workers." The five-story-tall walls of the power plant caved in,......

An elderly woman was struck by an outbound N-Judah this evening around 5:45 p.m. at 9th Avenue and Irving Street. Over at N-Judah Chronicles, fittingly enough, Greg Dewar was downing a pint at Blackthorn Tavern when the collision occurred. While having a pint at the Blackthorn Tavern, awaiting the beginning of pub trivia, Bobby, the owner alerted me to a situation just outside the door. It seems that at 5:41 pm (according to sources......

Egads. A man fell to his death yesterday at Monster Park after falling 20 feet from the upper concourse area of the stadium to the concrete mezzanine below. Scary. And sad. Some choice pictures of the fire hydrant at 18th Street and Guerrero that popped a little before 4 p.m. this afternoon.
