Admit it, the weather has been outstanding. No one can claim our high-rentian bargain of getting spectacular September weather has not been delivered in full. The beaches, parks, trails and sidewalks are the place to be weekend after weekend this month. The Love Parade was lovely and the Folsom Street Fair was crotchless chapirific. Some nights has even been warm enough to remove the long sleeves and leave the windows open overnight while the mornings... [continue]

Yes Siree Bob, It's Winter on December 21, 2005

Nothing we can do about it now. The umbrellas are already stored by the front door (if not hopelessly lost), the ineffective heating units are on (unless they're broken) and our MUNI rides feel like we're living in some underground steam rooms. But, we love it. Really. Without having to trudge through snow or over ice-treachery we can slow our paces, put on some cozy goodness, hunker down in a warm place and enjoy... [continue]

What an ambient summer week it's been and it's very likely to continue through the weekend. In fact, turkey wings crossed it will extend clear through the Thanksgiving weekend food coma. What do we owe this warm air, absence of damp Pacific winds and non-chilly evenings to? A giant high (pressure that is) holding court over the massive expanse of the Great Basin Desert (aka Nevada) which is pushing warm inland air over the western... [continue]

Falling Into The Fall on October 25, 2005

Quick quiz what's a high of 69 and a low of 54. Who knows it? Who does? Yep, you're right. That's the SF temperature range for the next couple months. Fortunately the direct sun will assure us splendid days still yet to come, even though some low pressure bands will make for slippery BART stairs, steamed up bus windows, and drivers performing like elderly Floridians. Yep, there's no fighting it any longer ... we're... [continue]

Bummer to all Friday evening outdoor outings. Ocean breezes pummeled the coast like we haven't seen since, uh, way back in uh, fog season all the way back in August. Fog and wind! What the fark? It's already October, our second and last month of summer ... Hello ... McCoy? Of course it turns out that yes, we still live in coastal Nor Cal and we're at the mercy of the Pacific Ocean's weather... [continue]

So far there have been at leat 2 LOUD thunder rolls, the air has a distinct mid-fall feel to it and rain is still possible if not imminent in SF and around the Bay Area. Area rainfall for September is extremely light, averaging below .6 inches everywhere, some places seeing only .1 inches. Rain is definitely a plus for cleaning off roads, sidewalks, and structures from accumulated build-up during a long dry period and... [continue]

For those that are about to burn, we weather you. Don't be fooled by the Gerlach weather reports, highs and lows are well above the reported mid 70s. Our advanced weatherists reported Sunday as "about 95 or so by day ... perfect playa weather. It was warm in the evenings, say 78 or so, stayed in the 68-72 range until 2am, then into the low 60s." Tuesday morning, however, saw pre-dawn temps in the... [continue]

A Tale Of Two Fogs on August 29, 2005

For the last month (besides last weekend) it feels like we've been living in dc city, as is dichotomy city. It's been a tale of two fogs. Either you're in the fog and you feel like the whole world (and possibly some neighboring planets) are covered in fog. You keep a ski hat in your bag, turn on the heat when guests come ever, stay in bed reading in the morning and blow off... [continue]

We keep lookin' and expectin' to be living in fog blanket city but the white menance is already breaking by the time we're done with our beignets at Just For You. (Holla back Dog Patch!) See the fog future for yourself. This is our newest favorite link and you can feel free to click it obessively with us for the next 7 weeks. Honestly, here it is the Fogth of July and only the... Today is the Summer Solstice and please, you don't need to be a pagan or Laplander to celebrate. It's funny how there are so many holidays pegged to the Winter Solstice but can you name any for the Summer Solstice? We recently read about some Scandavian holidays but we didn't know of any previously. Solstice is latin for sun stands still and that is music to our ears. So your weatherist decrees today Solday!... We swore we were done writing about the how droll it was that this Spring's rain would never say goodbye. That was a weather beat some other grumbler bigger than us would have to cover. And here it is two weeks from summer and all we have to tell you is that rain was crazy. We've never seen anything like it before and we're not being dramatic. In the last 155 years of area... Sure we can easily forget the amazing weather we just have and will have now that the sky is grey and cloud cover is returning. But not this time. No sir. We weatherists are doing some non-scientific gut forecasting and preparing for some more super weather. Of course our Far East and Deep South Bay readers wonder when the good weather possibly could have stopped, but much of us sat under clouds and fog... [continue]
