Go See Him: Doug Benson on September 30, 2008

Real quick: One of our most favoritest comedians ever, Mr. Doug Benson (of Best Week Ever) is back at the Punchline beginning tonight. He will have three 8pm shows this week. We'll be there on Thursday (Say "Hi!"). Opening for Doug are Tony Camin and Ali Wong. We're wondering if Benson will deign to do his hilarious tasteless bit on the late SF tigress Tatiana and Carlos Sousa Jr. Info: Tickets are $16 (with... [continue]

News Flash: Clay Aiken is Gay on September 24, 2008

But it's probably the least interesting thing about him. Read more about Aiken's shocking revelation here. Oh yeah, he had a baby too (which is actually probably the least interesting thing about him). Thoughts?... [continue]

At least RSVP if you're not going to do your job start prosecuting criminals! At last night's Glen Park Community Meeting, impressively attended by 500 residents (You go, GP!), all invited officials showed up to speak to and/or show their support for the recently crime-inundated neighborhood - all except for Kamala Harris. Disappointingly, the San Francisco District Attorney didn't even send a representative to the meeting. Come on, Kamala. You can do better than that!... [continue]

Go See It: Spring Awakening on September 8, 2008

On Saturday night, sitting front and center at the Duncan Sheik musical, Spring Awakening, we couldn't help but draw comparisons between the show's plot and this year's most vital presidential election. The show has a haunting relevance to the issues that have been looping nonstop on CNN. More of the same vs. change we can believe in. Curmudgeonly adults vs. a hopeful, vibrant youth. For us in San Francisco, the Spring Awakening tour offers... [continue]

Glen Park to Heather Fong: SOS on September 2, 2008

After enduring months of brutal muggings, Glen Park residents are now stunned by the attempted murder and kidnapping that took place on August 30th right in the heart of the neighborhood. A description of the crime was posted on the Glen Park Bulletin Board written by Elizabeth Weise of Glen Park News. Robbers stabbed Paul Park, the owner of Buddy's Market at about 11 p.m. last night, leaving him for dead. They also kidnapped one... [continue]

If there were a gold medal for worst fashion display during an Olympics highlights show, Diane Dwyer would be the Michael Phelps of the sport. Clearly the hostess of Olympic Zone desperately needs the Bela Karolyi of stylists. P.S. Sorry for the poor quality pic. You actually might want to thank us for sparing you a clear picture of the poo-colored zip-up leather vest with a dog-ear collar that Ms. Dwyer was sporting this evening.... [continue]

We had some errands to run in the loverly West Portal the other day and decided to take our little sprout on a walk through St. Francis Wood - You know, to show him how the other half lives. Much to our chagrin, we discovered that the sidewalks of St. Francis Wood are without ramps. What up with that, SFW? You must have oversized treadmills in your houses for the nannies, otherwise we don't understand... [continue]

Sunnyside residents have cause to celebrate tonight as one of the neighborhood's most notorious residents was arrested this afternoon after years of mischievous criminal behavior. In the past month, "Greg" has broken into, slashed the tires of, and stolen the gas out of neighbors' cars. In mid-June, Greg assaulted one neighbor who confronted him about a vehicular break-in. Although neighbors really put the pressure on the powers that be since the June assault, Greg's shenanigans... [continue]

Congratulations to SFist Editor Brock Keeling for winning the Best Blogger title in SFWeekly's annual Best Of edition! It of course comes as no surprise to us that Brock is being honored along with the likes of Best Iconic Bay Area Newscaster Dennis Richmond and Best Mansion, Spreckels Mansion! Since its launch in 2004, SFist (part of the Gothamist family of blogs) has become a reliably eccentric source for local news and gossip. And,... [continue]

Nothing says "welcome to our neighborhood in which you will never be able to afford a house" quite like graffiti of a veined penis stating, "Tupac Lives." On the Yerba Buena approach to St. Francis Wood (or "The Wood" as neighboring residents like to call it) from Westwood Highlands, this cuddly pee pee full of personality says, "Wassup" to drivers and pedestrians alike. And while we would expect such a display from the West Portal... [continue]

Then you've been watching Mornings on 2 this morning. Since at least 6 a.m., commercials on KTVU 2 have all been stuck on this image. While the audio for commercials is still playing without issue, this is the image that has been frozen on the screen during every commercial break. And while we normally care very little about morning commercials, we can only imagine that people who are really excited about Shoe Week at... [continue]

Whoo-hoo indeed! The STAR Listener billboard, featuring Michelle from Oakland is finally no more. After nine or so months (by our calculations), those of us who live and/or work in SOMA or drive by the billboard on 101-South everyday will no longer be subjected to Michelle's...well, looks. We just wish we could take some credit for the change. Oh well. At least she it is gone. P.S. Yes, we are shallow and mean. See the... [continue]

Aw. That's just sad. Bathroom emergency? We're just surprised that Sal didn't take the opportunity to swoop in and read some headlines. Sal was especially excited to remind us viewers that today is Abraham Lincoln's birthday and that he saved some random Sal fan from going to the DMV today, which is closed for the holiday. But poor Tori. All alone at 7:47. *sniff sniff*... [continue]

We apologize for our recent obsession with KTVU, but we just couldn't resist this one. Claudine Wong flirting laughing with Kenny G Mornings on 2 programming this morning included frequent and uncomfortably long live coverage of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am by KTVU reporter Claudine Wong. Wong was all giggles as she interviewed B-Listers such as Kevin James, Huey Lewis, and Kenny G. The segments seemed rather silly among news of a police standoff in LA,... [continue]

Just as Ross informed the candidate that they had 20 seconds left and he offered his final question about Bill's role in Hillary's campaign, the senator broke out in a coughing fit and was unable to answer the question. Interesting Unfortunate timing.... [continue]

Complete with heartwarming ultrasound images of a bouncy baby juxtaposed by a stern, deep, and concerned-sounding voiceover warning that babies are dying, a new KTVU teaser began playing this morning for a special report they're airing on Monday at 5. After women were again chastised warned about drinking coffee during early pregnancy last month in a Kaiser study, it looks like the media is ready to strike again, but now taking it to the next... But don't get too excited, folks. Our way unpopular president will be at a Republican National Committee fundraiser at a private home in the posh Peninsula town. So alas, there is no chance to hear him speak, or watch him speak, or fall asleep during a W speech à la Senator Joseph Biden at the State of the Union address.... [continue]

A pod of orcas has been seen off the coast of Monterey Bay, way far south of where the whales normally travel. Scientists are guessing that the "collapse" in the chinook salmon population is responsible. Normally, these whales from the Puget Sound, never need travel south of the Columbia River, which empties on the border between Washington and Oregon. Since this is the sixth year the whales have been seen off of Monterey, the current... [continue]

(Bye-bye, Ennis.) You might want to grab some tissues for this one...... [continue]

If only results of this Kaisar study came out on Friday. Then we may have seen more interesting placards at Walk for Life on Saturday. "Coffee Kills," "Vegan, Caffeine-Free, and Pro-Life," for example. Why such a small study is making headlines in print and on television, we have no idea. The lives of pregnant women are already so limited, what with no drinking allowed, no drugging allowed, no hot-tubbing allowed, etc, etc. Despite the fact... [continue]
