Hey, it's the return of our Muni Driver. Welcome back, driver! Today he discusses how Muni handles all those big events, like this upcoming Halloween. Question: Who gets to do the big nights and who doesn't and why does everyone complain that there's not enough busses? I've had to either wait for hours or even walk from downtown to the Haight just because there was no buses to take.... [continue]

Oh this is just hilarious. Muni is predicting bus disruptions in the Castro on October 31st; but they can't say that it's because of Halloween, because the city continues to pretend that Halloween isn't going to happen this year. So now, in a semiotically treacherous move, they're saying that... [continue]

Sorry we're so late with this feature this week. Our tardiness involves a sordid tale of broken 2Wire gateways and AT&T not being terribly helpful. But anyway: on with the show! What was on Muni's mind this weekend? Halloween, of course: the annual top-secret "real" celebration in the Castro the... [continue]

We have incredibly exciting news about bus shelters! The city just reached an agreement with Clear Channel, your favorite company, to provide bus shelters and advertising and revenue. It's a complicated relationship, and totally boring -- like, alt-weekly-level boring -- but here's what it all means to you, the common... [continue]

But, Muni, try limiting our wait. (Ha! Oh stop!) SFist reader, Cior sent us this image she snapped up while waiting for the N-Judah this morning. 60 minutes for a 10 a.m. N-Judah seems a bit inexcusable. What's more, she called her boyfriend to see what NextMuni had to... [continue]

Oh sure, you scoffed. But the joke's on you, scoffy! A majority of commenters on an earlier post were of the opinion that the cautionary "Muni Stories" posters on the buses could not possibly be true, and must be the work of an ambitious hoaxer. There was disbelief that... [continue]

Muni inspectors and dispatchers went all French yesterday and called a sickout. Their union, the Transport Workers Union, Local 200, is currently in contract negotiations with the Powers that Be and obviously it's not going as they are hoping. Basically, an arbitrator went in and set the terms of the contract and the Union is not very happy with it. Thus the sickout. ... [continue]

Don't do this. Ever. Seriously. At last! An informative guide -- tutoring both rookies and veterans riders alike -- on how the hell to ride the headache that is Muni and BART public transportation. Neighbors Project brings you this nifty and imperative guide, which will help us all get along... [continue]

We were riding the M line yesterday, thumbing through the Guardian's 41st anniversary special, when G.W. Schultz's lead for the his anti-Muni-privatization article caught our eye: There's a money room in the basement of 1 South Van Ness, where the Municipal Transportation Agency, which operates Muni, is headquartered. Workers... [continue]

Last night we had the opportunity to bear witness to a most common SF annoyance - cable car operators not collecting fares. Shocking? No. But, what did throw us for a loop was the brakeman, who accepted a tip. When our relative from out of town just had to ride... [continue]

This photo was taken last Wednesday at Fulton and Masonic around 7pm. You can't possibly imagine how packed this bus was -- people stepping on each other, on each others' laps, holding the ceiling-mounted LED display because there was nowhere else to get a grip, standing in both stairwells, and... Hey, remember a few days ago, when we posted about how Muni sends out street-closure notices to reporters, but the notices also serve as handy little events calendars? Well, thanks to a well-placed tipster, we now have a better idea of just how rigorously Muni compiles the damn things.... [continue]

After a bit of a hiatus, our Muni Security Guy returns with a primer on how Muni Security Guys become Muni Security Guys. We'd also like to let everyone know that our Muni Driver has taken a bit of a break and hopefully will return soon. But if there are any other Muni Drivers (or anyone who does anything Muni-like) out there who'd like to take a plunge, let us know-- we'd love to have you.... [continue]

Yes, the Metro trains yesterday were all screwed up, but it could have been worse. We saw the ad above on a #22 and...shudder.... [continue]

According to the Chronicle, while trying to catch a train at the Embarcadero station Tuesday night at around 6 p.m., a man got his hand trapped in the door of an L-line and was dragged along the platform. As he was seconds away from a fatal encounter with the... [continue]

If you're unlucky enough to be a regular Muni rider, you may have followed the ongoing ridiculousness involving the NextMuni displays at Church Street Station. As you can see above, the display now shows information. True to form, that information manages to be both wrong and useless. As we... [continue]

Screen shot captured Sunday afternoon by ciaran-sf at the Montgomery Street station. It went without K, T, L, or M outbound info since last Thursday, we're told. On the sunnier side, at least the outbound J-Church and N-Judah intervals are almost spot-on.... [continue]

So, obviously, SFist can't even pretend to be neutral when it comes to Prop A. We've been covering its progress for months, and now it's evolved into a smart, fair compromise that has just about everyone on board -- everyone except a local Republican group. Our local GOP is... [continue]
