With budget cuts, and long lines, apparently this is the easiest way for disgruntled patrons at the Fell Street DMV to get out their frustrations. The colors are very harmonious though.

USF Baseball Team Has Dance-Off With UCONN
This was shot on May 21st during a 5-hour rain delay during the Big East Baseball Tournament at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Florida. Please excuse the inclusion of "The Macarena" -- it's actually kind of funny.

UPDATE, Old Meme -- Help Find Beloved Labs a Home Together
Ha, it looks like we've been had, kind of -- it is a true story though. According to Snopes, this story happened down in LA in February, and the dogs did indeed find a home together. Awww! Thanks to drybones for clearing it up for us.
A friend of SFist sent this sad story to us earlier, and SFist commenter Rahir added it to SFist's contribute page.

Top Ten Bay Area News Anchors?
City Nights (or whatever it's called) web-log writer Rich Lieberman came up with a (definitive?) list of the top-ten Bay Area newscasters. While they are "in no particular order," he lists the anchors in convenient 1 - 10 numerical sequence. They are as listed: #10, Tom Sinkovitz, NBC11/Bay Area (crusty but benign; no nonsense, goddamnit); #9, Ken Wayne, KTVU/FOX2 (an "avid traveler"); #8, Dana King, KPIX/CBS5 (paltry English language words cannot describe our love for la King); #7, Ken Bastida, KPIX/CBS5 (allowed the privilege and honor of sitting next to la King); #6, Julie Haener, KTVU/FOX2 ("blonde, gorgeous, and beautiful," climaxes Lieberman); #5, Frank Somerville, KTVU/FOX2 (we saw someone who looked just like him at the Daly City In-N-Out recently); #4, Jessica Aguirre, NBC11/Bay Area (jumped ship at KGO/ABC7 before moving to San Jose); #3, Dan Ashley, KGO/ABC7 (calm under pressure, suspected redhead); #2, Carolyn Johnson, KGO/ABC7 ("no 'look at me' aura," claims Vinney), and #1 goes to.... well, you'll have to check out Lieberman's post to find out Moore. But what say you, readers? What with a glaring lack of CBS 5's Wendy Tokuda and the KRON 4 Morning Team, is there any on-air anchor talent you think should have made his list?

Photos: Tonight's Prop 8 Rally
There was a huge turnout tonight at both the City Hall and Yerba Buena rallies, and then a large chunk of people branched off toward the Castro. Stop8.org's Twitter feed informs us that a guy from the ACLU gave a rousing speech at City Hall about never giving up, and Mark Leno inspired the crowd about equal protection at Yerba Buena. Then a flatbed truck turned up with a speaker who got everyone riled up in party mode during the march.

Photos from Carnaval Parade
Despite the searing chill in the air, the annual Carnaval festival in the Mission was a vibrant smash. Noted photog Ted Weinstein captured the color and glorious garishness of yesterday's Carnaval parade. (Seriously, these are some amazing images Weinstein snapped up.)

Poll: And Your Next California Governor Is...
Last night, SF Mayor Gavin Newsom "officially kicked off his campaign" for governor of California 2010. That is to say, you'll see even less of Newsom over the next year or so. If that's even possible. Which is fine with us. Because "Mayor Nathan Ballard" has a nice ring to it. Oh, come now. Ballard is a funny guy. Period. And a smartypants too. And that's good enough for us.

Congratulations to this Year's Best of San Francisco Winners
Hot off the presses is SF Weekly's annual Best of San Francisco issue. Here are some highlights. Everyone's favorite, Mission Mission, came away with Best Neighborhood Blog. SFist Richard, aka Sparkletack nabbed Best SF History Podcast. Vicki Marlane at Aunt Charlie's was ordained Best Drag Queen. The feisty Ed Leong won Best Octogenarian Badminton Player. And we can attest that Humphry Slocombe is the Best New Ice Cream Store. Their "Secret Breakfast" is delish.
SF Windsurfing Segment from Good Morning America, ca. 1981
Good morning! We came across this just-uploaded segment on San Francisco Bay windsurfing from Good Morning America in 1981 and thought we'd share. It was shot off of Fillmore Street, Redwood Shores Estates and Sausalito and features some groovy smooth jazz and windsurfing enthusiast Mark Buzzard.

While heading to best computer store in San Francisco, Central Computers, we came across these special people blocking the entrance. Anti-psychiatry ilk, it seems, were out in force on Saturday across the street from the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting at Moscone Center, protesting the drugging of children. Because that's bad.And whenever a passing vehicle honked in what they thought was support, the special protesters would high-five each other and give the thump-up sign.

Guerrilla Movie Marketing: Still Relevant?
Has anyone else been peeved by the "Angels & Demons" graffiti marketing effort that's recently decorated the paths in Dolores Park? Doubtless some clever marketing firm who specializes in "non-traditional" or "guerrilla marketing" convinced Sony Pictures that their new DaVinci Code sequel could really use some of their ultra-hip techniques to spread the word to that coveted 18-34 demo, and they were going to do it by spray-painting the title of the film on sidewalks in places where said demo hangs out. (We know we're buying into their crap by even posting this, but we are expressing our quiet protest by not linking to the film and by gently discouraging all of you from seeing it). Our questions are: a) Has anyone ever decided to go see a movie because they saw the title spray-painted in their favorite park, and b) does that shit wash off?
Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus Preview
Over at Laughing Squid, we came across this delightful preview to Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. The plot line goes like this: "the California coast is terrorized by two enormous prehistoric sea creatures as they battle each other for supremacy of the sea." The future cinematic masterpiece, which (SPOILER ALERT) features a giant shark eating the Golden Gate Bridge, is set for release on May 26th.

Yelp Still Freaking Users Out
Here's yet another story on how Yelp are bullies, via Eater. Robert, a coffee blogger in Vancouver had signed up for a Yelp account a few weeks ago, but didn't do anything with it until he heard from Crystal H, who told him she was looking for good coffee places to check out. Crystal convinced Robert to start putting his cafe reviews on Yelp, telling him she had received a lot of traffic to her own website through Yelp ("much more than Twitter").

How Weird Street Fair Photos
On Sunday, the annual How Weird Street Fair took place on Howard Street (get it?), with many residents showing up for the organized fun festivities wearing very bright colors. Described as a way to "rewire our way of thinking towards peace, by rebooting the motherboard," the zany fair was filled with Burners, furries, transgressive types, self-described weirdos, and other people who had bad experiences with "organized religion" and/or mean parents who believed in some sort of structure.

Help an SFister Land That Sonoma Wine Job
News of Sonoma County’s “Really Goode Job” first hit SFGate on April 28. Since then, hopefuls coveting the $10,000/month, half-year gig for Murphy-Goode have been applying online and uploading videos for consideration for the position. While most of the applicants are from out of state, one of the very few (thus far) Bay Area applicants is SFist contributor Deborah N . While we are, of course, ecstatic of the idea of one of our own winning the grand prize, (yet sad and depressed at the thought of her moving to an albeit free and glamorous house in Healdsburg for six month), we are curious about Deborah’s motivation for applying for the position. (Aside from the fact that we want an SFister to land this oddly, at least according to many MSM outlets, newsworthy job)
Surfing Turf Wars
C.W. Nevius clued us in to some surfing turf wars and comical lingo in his column today. There's apparently been a large number of newbies risking their lives at the treacherous Fort Point (the short stretch under the Golden Gate Bridge) in recent years, which has caused a lot of friction.
Drag Queen Spoofs Those Pro-Corn Syrup Ads
LA-based drag queen Jackie Beat, who was recently up here for Lip Service at the Castro, just made these three spoof ads of those Corn Refiners Commercials in which one mother gives another mother some 'tude because she's giving her kids fruit punch with high-fructose corn syrup in it, and the response is "it's fine in moderation." Anyway, we enjoy drag queen humorists and hope you do too. (Hat tip to The Sword -- link semi-NSFW.)
Nerd Alert! It's Odd Day
Nerds the world over are reveling in the fact that today, 5/7/09, is the third of 6 days this century in which the date happens to be made of three odd numbers that are also numerically consecutive. The previous two in this century would have been 1/3/05 and 3/5/07 and the last one prior to that, in the 20th century, would have been 11/13/15, or November 13, 1915. Got that? Yeah, anyway, we suppose this is actually just an American nerd obsession, because in Europe they reverse the month and the day and the shit just wouldn't be the same. Anyway, you can learn more about it here, and possibly win a $579 prize for being the biggest nerd on your block if you write an Odd Ode or have an award-winning Odd Celebration.

Help a Mother Out This Mother's Day
By now, many of us have read about the saga of a local mother's efforts to find a spot in a homeless shelter for her and her three children. We all feel kind of powerless with regards to her situation, but one way we can help many women in need is by donating diapers and tampons to low-income family advocacy groups. Apparently, WIC money doesn't cover diapers, and diaper companies won't donate them either.

Reminiscent of Donna McKechnie's "Tick Tock" number from Stephen Sondheim's Company -- which featured McKechnie power dancing on moving elevators within a 1970s metropolitan landscape of marriage, love, sex, song, and Stritch -- ThinkSketchDesign came across this scene yesterday in Osage Alley. Apparently, "a small crowd gathered to watch dancers practicing a routine on twin fire escapes. Music was playing from somewhere as they danced in and out of their doors, up and down the fire escape stairs and ladders."

Matt Baume Recaps the Courage Campaign Training Event
Stop8.org's Matt Baume attended the Courage Campaign's training event in Oakland this past weekend, and learned three main tactics for gaining marriage equality: 1. Tell good stories; 2. Persuade through agreement; and 3. Anticipate certain arguments and know how to discuss them. The main factors for planting the seed in Middle America's brains are listening to the opposing side for at least 50% of the conversation, asking them lots of questions, and appealing to their emotions instead of their intellect.
