Anti-SF Weekly T-Shirt
We just spotted this and thought we'd share, especially since many of you have been quite vocal in your annoyance with Weekly reporter Matt Smith's prudish stance on allowing Kink.com employees to take advantage of a state-funded training program. We're quite sure Tim Redmond has bought a dozen already, so if you're so inclined you'd better get yours before he realizes what great stocking stuffers these will make for SFBG staffers come holiday time. They even come in long-sleeved! And, in case you missed it, here's Stephen Elliott's write-up on the brouhaha on The Huffington Post.

American Football Spectacular: Capsulizing The 2009 NFL Draft's First Round, "A Tale Of Two Receivers"
It's time for American Football Spectacular's capsule reviews of the first round in the 2009 NFL Draft. All the intrigue, all the anticipation, all the measurables! All hard information was culled from NFL.com's pretty excellent draft tracker site. Let's do this.

What's Going On Here, Disgruntled Tenant?
With a fondness for black and red ink, a tenant at Oak and Broderick seems peeved with their current living situation, which allegedly involves rats, urine, fecal matter, and an illegal rent increase.
Will Fetch Your Swarm of Bees
Spider Monkey found this cute flyer in West Berkeley and sent it to us via the SFist Contribute page. We wonder if they'd come all the way to the Mission for a swarm of bees.

Archival Footage of 1960 City Hall Protest
Bobster1985 has a great collection of San Francisco archival footage. Here's a clip that shows a bit of San Francisco's progressive history during the Civil Rights Era. The full film can be seen at archive.org.

Thanks to This Week's Advertisers
We would like to take a moment to thank this week's advertisers on SFist.
'Baby Shaker' Inspires More Provocative iPhone Apps (Semi-NSFW)
Gay blog Unzipped.net pointed us to a few other iPhone apps in the same shaky vein of Baby Shaker but not yet pulled from Apple's e-shelves. These are particularly geared toward a gay audience and feature things like a shaking male ass, a bottle of poppers, and an app that shakes the living shit out of all the guys who try to take sexy mirror-self-portraits of themselves for MySpace and Facebook. See examples after the jump.
What Should Replace Crouching Spider?
Louise Bourgeois' bronze spider sculpture is leaving the Embarcadero at Pier 14, ready to nest in Houston where it will be part of a private collection. Aw.
Japanese Kid Is One-Man Beatbox Band
We weren't sure at first if this was a fake, because it came from College Humor. But no, we think this kid is actually making all those sounds, and his work has already won the love of about everyone on Digg. Watch, after the jump.

SF Weekly Shows Its Prudish Side Toward Kink.com
In a piece that SFBG's Tim Redmond has already called "remarkable for its prudishness," SF Weekly's Matt Smith has written an indictment this week against S&M porn producers Kink.com for being able to send their video editors to state-funded classes at the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC). Why? Because kinky shit grosses him out and he feels taxpayers shouldn't be funding the training of Kink's workers, despite their being employees of a legitimate, taxpaying California business.

This severed head made the rounds at SOMA Whole Foods yesterday. It was highly amusing for those of us who blow all of our income at the fancy store. Also, the people who work there are just about the coolest people in SF. Thanks for keeping it interesting, SOMA Whole Foods ilk.

Another Kinda Funny NOM Parody: 'A Gaythering Storm'
While conservative Miss USA runner-up and certifiable dumb bitch Carrie Prejean defends herself and continues to stand behind her anti-gay-marriage stance, the folks at Funny or Die have offered up yet another NOM parody ad, this one featuring Alicia Silverstone, Lance Bass, Brothers & Sisters star and former Sex & the City hottie Jason Lewis, and Christopher Guest troop member Jane Lynch. We especially like when it starts raining gays. Watch, after the jump.
Real Estate Protip: Confederate Flag Comforter Sells Home
If you're not reading Curbed, you're missing out. On a lot. Take, for example, this Bernal Heights home (638 Banks St Unit 638-A) they came across, which is currently on the market. The decision to use this, um, decorative comforter to sell a house in San Francisco sure does pop, doesn't it?

What's Going On Here, Windshield at Folsom & 13th?
OK. We've seen this windshield sign for the past few months when we pass by Folsom and 13th Streets, which was initially brought to our attention by Examiner columnist Melissa Griffin. But today, we can no longer resist sharing it with you. Because it scares us and we hope none of you ladies actually respond to it. It reads:

What's Going On Here, Muni?
First, why is the error message so "passive-aggressive"? Also, the error sign was up for at least nine hours without any Muni employee passing by, or at least none caring enough to fix it.
Highly Sexualized Spongebob Ad for Burger King
Has everybody seen this ad for Burger King featuring Spongebob Squarepants, that scary masked King and a spoof version of Sir Mix-a-lot's "Baby Got Back?" Yeah, we didn't think so (we have TiVo too). So now, for your slightly disturbing viewing pleasure, an ad for a new children's toy promo at a fast food restaurant featuring a bunch of dancers with phone books for asses. It should complement your 420 on 4/20 quite well.

Steve and Kate's Summer Camp Starts in June at Six Bay Area Locations
Steve and Kate's Summer Camp, which "reinvents summer camp for the modern era," sounds like a dream camp for kids in kindergarten through 7th grade that's customized for each child. It's something we adults wish we had as kids. They have seven art and technology studios: Film Studio, Recording Studio, Performing Arts Studio, Sewing Studio, Sculpture Studio, Jewelry Studio, and Knitting Studio, and the kids can choose to participate in one or several of them on their own. From the camp's website: "We're blown away at the initiative campers bring to the creative studios, whether they're fabricating a bead-encrusted skateboard helmet or developing a comedy sketch about humpback whales."
Take a Free Walking Tour Today, This Weekend, Any Day
We recently discovered San Francisco City Guides' free walking tours last fall, which have been around for 30 years. They offer seasonally-themed tours throughout the year, including their annual Scavenger Hunt in the fall, as well as regular tours in various neighborhoods every day of the week.
BREAKING: Alf, St. Elmo's Fire to Be Available on YouTube
In a majorly unexciting development, YouTube has struck a deal with several studios to offer full-length movies and television shows on its platform. YouTube parent Google is hoping this will bring a new era of higher quality ads to YouTube, but don't expect to be seeing Benjamin Button or The Watchmen anytime soon. The deal so far only covers existing content partners who will start by offering up some of the oldest shit in their catalog -- Lionsgate, for instance, will be offering up episodes of Alf, which for all its stoner/cult appeal might not have been our first choice.

Today in NOM Ad Parodies
Given the avid internet addictions of most of our readers, we assume you've seen this hilarious ad by The National Organization for Marriage in which a bunch of hired actors pretend to be fundamentalist Christians sincerely frightened by the "gathering storm" of gay marriage. Well, everyone from HRC to your mom has made a parody, and in case you haven't seen all of them, we bring you the funniest of the bunch, after the jump.

BYOBW: Bring Your Own Big Wheel Race (Photos)
Originally held on Lombard Street, the BYOBW (Bring Your Own Big Wheel) Race has since moved to the somewhat more (or less?) twisty terrain on Potrero Hill at Vermont and 20th streets. This weekend, daredevils came in droves with their own Big Wheel or fun-size riding device (e.g., an office chair) to plunge down one of San Francisco's steepest hills. Here are some images from Sunday's breathtaking race. Enjoy.
Live Footage from the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake
The above video is a collection of live footage captured during the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake in San Francisco, which was created by the U.S. Geological Survey. Be forewarned that it's a bit unsettling (but not gory).
One More Reason You May Never See Your Abs
We don't mean to derail your Spring diet plan, or gross you out early on Monday morning, whichever the case may be. But it's flying around the internet and we may as well be the ones to show it to you: the deep fried Cadbury egg (via This Is Why You're Fat, natch). The little chocolate wonders filled with pure sugar spooge and a dollop of yolk-like yellow spooge are, like everything else, even more delicious battered and fried. Just look at the picture!

Landmark Tomato for Sale
Perfect for your next Burning Man art car or, well, your next Burning Man art car, the big red tomato that used to siren in customers at the now-closed Vino e Cucina is up for sale. According to the Craigslist ad: "After serving for 18 years as a SOMA landmark for San Franciscans, the giant tomato is available for sale. It is huge and ready to be hung or displayed by the buyer. It is hollow metal and in great condition. Original cost was $5,000. Asking price: $1,500. The tomato is still hanging at 489 Third Street, San Francisco (cross street Bryant). Please call 415-722-9229 if you have any questions or would like to purchase the 'Big Tomato.'" To check out the massive tomato, go to the chronically empty lot at Bryant and Third Street to see it in all its plump, red glory.

Recycling Your Mattress
As mentioned previously, SFEnvironment.org has a great list of additional resources. You an drop off your mattress for free at Raphael House (call ahead for times). BedBusters will come pick it up for a charge based on mattress size. Estates Mattress Company in Oakland will recycle single- and full-sized mattress drop-offs for $10 per mattress. Additionally, there is EcoHaul, but it sounds like you'd need a truck-full of items to make it worth the price (call/email for prices).

Impromptu Poem to a Beloved SOMA/Mission Grocer
From our new favorite photo-rich micro-blog, Sex Pigeon [line breaks ours]:
New Public Plaza Going in at 17th & Castro
SF Appeal pointed us to this: local architects-for-the-people Public Architecture designed a pedestrian-friendly public plaza for the cable car turnaround at the intersection of Market, Castro and 17th Streets, which is set to open soon. (We sort of doubt that it will be complete and open next month as stated, but hey, we can all dream!)

Where to Properly Dispose of Electronics
Instead of kicking your passé electronics to the curb, be kind and recycle them properly. (We can think of several such items we're currently hoarding in our closets.)

A Video Post In Which Our Old Friend Zennie Goes to the Giants' Opening Day
You may recall avid YouTube enthusiast Zennie from this post regarding the "outsize" buildings in the futuristic San Francisco skyline shown in the upcoming Star Trek film. Well, as it happens, the East Bay denizen's addiction to vlogging did not start and certainly did not end with that arguably minor work. Allow us to point you to his latest opus, in which he takes us to the San Francisco Giants' opening day at AT&T Park, but not without an initial tour of something called BART and something called the N-Judah.
Jack Wrangler, Early Gay Porn Superstar, Dead at 62
The rugged everyman who arguably became the first big star of the once underground gay porn industry is dead due to complications from lung disease. After starring in films like Night at the Adonis, Wrangler ultimately had a long, happy, sexless marriage to sometime pop singer, Margaret Whiting, who survives him. For those unfamiliar with Wrangler, either via his filmography or via the 2008 documentary Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon--which won Best Alternative Release at this year's GayVN Awards two weeks ago--our friends over at The Sword posted this clip. (Site semi-NSFW, depending on your W.) As they put it, "Wrangler's iconic recipe for sex soup -- cowboy denim and body hair, just add hay -- will live forever."

Oakland's Shopseen.com Simplifies Shopping Locally
Shopseen is a new beta site that enables users to post and rate photos of their favorite fashion and household items for sale in the Bay Area. (We wonder if any users ever get in trouble for taking photos?) The site is currently holding a contest, in which the most active Shopseen user will receive a $50 gift card from Therapy. The contest ends Friday.

Spring Cleaning, Where to Donate
'Tis the season for cleaning and purging. We just got rid of half our wardrobe yesterday and did a little research on charities that will accept clothing and household items. Please let us know about additional organizations in the comments.
A Transit 'Tree' and an Optimistic 30-Minute Trip Map
The SF Streets Blog has given us this cool Transit Tree, based on the Bay Area's transit "circulatory system," as well as a map of how far a person can get -- presumably on a good day -- on public transit in 30 minutes from Civic Center. See that map after the jump.

Images: Ingleside Terraces Sundial
Do you remember the Ingleside Racetrack? Since it was in operation for a paltry ten years from 1895 to 1905, probably not. According to the Ingleside Terraces Homes Association's website the track was built out of infamous San Francisco dissatisfaction.

Yelp's Yelp Reviews More Mixed in Light of Extortion Stories
We've been enjoying reading the onslaught of one- and two-star reviews about Yelp on its own site, ever since the extortion stories sprouted legs. Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman denies the accusations, claiming the only things an advertiser pays for are a clearly-labeled "sponsored result" at the top of relevant search results pages, a photo slideshow of their business, and the option to highlight a favorite review.

This image has been up on Mission Mission for over a week. But if you haven't seen these little fellas yet, check them out. (They also popped up on Folsom Street, near that Communist grocery store.) Mischievously adorable, yes? Yes.
Greenpeace Stages "Fossil Fools Day" Protest
SF Weekly has a slideshow of pics from yesterday's theatrical Greenpeace demonstration, where the basic idea was "fossil fuels are from the stone age." We think some of the participants took their slogan ideas straight from the org's national website instead of coming up with them themselves if only because one of them said, "Solar Power the Sears Tower," which, uh, might benefit from more of a local spin.

Take the Quake Quiz
Speaking of the Tuesday Noon Siren, the SF Department of Energy Management has a Flash-y quiz for us web-savvy folks to check our earthquake knowledge, while providing helpful tips along the way. (Warning, Flash equals long initial load time.) Although most of the answers entail "cover your head," we got a couple questions wrong on the first guess. The quiz addresses all potential locations: Home, Beach, Car, Work, Public Transit, and Dining Out. We especially love the girl meditating on the N Judah in the graphic above. How often do you see that in real life, and during an earthquake, at that?
Visit the SF SPCA Mobile Adoption Outreach at Various Downtown Locations
There were a few adoptable cats and a lone bulldog at SF SPCA's adoption outreach booth at Embarcadero 4 today. The booth rotates at various downtown locations, and the hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The mobile adoption outreach will be at Levi's Plaza tomorrow and 50 Fremont on Friday.

Here are some images of people acting stupid. ("Stupid," it seems, equals "wearing loud colors.") Check back here for updated images of today's alleged inanity at today's St. Stupid's Day Parade.
The Tuesday Noon Siren, a Short Documentary
This cute, two-minute video created by 72hours.org with the help of the SF Department of Emergency Management explains the history of San Francisco's outdoor warning system and profiles Cesar Santos, the dispatcher who tests the Siren every Tuesday at Noon. We wonder what Tray 3 is, as in "Don't Use Tray 3" in the YouTube freeze-frame.
And remember, if you hear the siren any other time besides Tuesdays at Noon, go indoors and immediately tune to a news source such as KCBS 740 AM, or another local media station. In a real emergency, the siren tone will cycle repeatedly for 5 minutes.
