There was not a very impressive turnout at that celebration of the death of terrorist cell leader Jerry Falwell. SFist photographer Jim reports that when he passed by, there were three protesters present (including the piñata), greatly outnumbered by members of the press. For the rest of the city, though, life went blissfully on -- such was the man's clout over the sinners of San Francisco. Sadly, as irrelevant as Jerry was to our lives, organizer Michael Petrelis too lacked the authority necessary to assemble a throng of promised gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders -- unless you count the reporters, of course. (To be fair, one witness reports that some Sisters hung out for a little while, and they've always got a handful of followers. But by the time we walked by at 6:30, only one or two people remained.)

Many have offered touching words of remembrance, but few words strive to such tenderness and dignity as those of a commenter identified only as "Magda," which sounds like the kind of name you'd give a pet goat:

I think you guys are all wack. ... Jerry has done so much for this country that you narrow-minded people cannot see but for your heads being shoved so deeply up your asses. ... As for all you haters calling Jerry a hater, you guys truly are hypocritical, as you are essentially being haters.

Dr. Falwell leaves behind a nation of mourning Magdas, and also his mother, whom he knocked up.

After the jump: more pix of the non-event, or check out Jim's pix on Flickr.

Michael Petrelis gleefully points out that young Mary Cheney's book is now selling for less than a dime on Amazon. What a steal! The memoir is all about how it's totally cool to support the people who think you're a disease, which sounds like a fun read.

To be fair, the seven-cent copy is "used," though for what purpose we cannot imagine. You can also obtain a "collectible" copy for $29.99 -- the seller explains that the book is inscribed to "somebody." Somebody! Is that Mary's euphemism for her wife?

Like the ant and the grasshopper, you can either fold t-shirts now to see Frameline films for free; or you can wait until June and pay to get in. We vote for folding t-shirts, of course. Or you can staff the press table if you prefer. Ryan Jones, the Volunteer Coordinator at the queer film fest, would like you to know that there's tons of opportunities for Frameline volunteers, in exchange for which you'll get free vouchers to movies. We volunteered for the fest a few years ago, before we started covering it for SFist, and it was a dandy time indeed -- the sort of thing that would make R&B star Usher proud. Drop Ryan a line at 415.703.8650 x 324, or rjones at frameline dot org. Here's some of the jobs he's recruiting for:

Stuffing Gift Bags
Creating Film Badges
Folding T-Shirts
Assembling Guest Packets
