SFist Blotter
A woman biking to work (with a helmet) suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a cement truck making an illegal right turn onto the 101 onramp at Market and Octavia Monday morning. The truck didn't stop, but a motorcycle cop subsequently caught up with the driver on 101 by the Cesar Chavez exit (and determined that the driver didn't realize he'd hit the woman). There have been a number of accidents at that intersection, and the situation is just made worse by the fact that the sun is often in people's eyes.
It's very Pacific Heights 11 -- the SFPD have cracked a bold art heist where a group of criminals stole over several million dollars of antiques and art from a Jackson Street home (including a John Singer Sargent portrait valued over $1 million, pictured along with some antique furniture at left). Two crazy things: 1) the criminals loaded up a U-Haul van in plain sight of neighbors' and 2) the whole thing fell apart when someone in the gang went back and tried to sell back the loot to the victim. This all seems very strange. In addition, in the hubbub of the theft, the home owner's 5-year-old Abyssinian cat named Bucky has gone missing as well. Bucky is light brown with a notch missing out of his right ear (and no collar); call the SFPD burglary unit at (415) 553-1351 if you see him.
And the sudden dismissal of beleaguered Northern California U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan is going to have some impact on the backdating investigations currently plaguing Silicon Valley. Defense lawyers are gloating. Will there be any impact on the BALCO investigations or the Josh Wolf situation?

That intersection has always been tricky for turns onto the freeway. It's too easy for cars to make that dangerous, illegal right turn -- maybe more barriers would be a good idea.
