A man walking near Ocean Beach was violently accosted Friday, by two bike-riding robbers who apparently wanted his hat.

Police say the chapeau crime went down at 12:20 a.m. Friday, near where Great Highway meets Cabrillo Street.

Police say that the victim, a 29-year-old man, was approached by two male suspects who appeared to be in their late 20s or early 30s. Somehow, a conflict broke out and "a verbal altercation quickly turned physical," according to the San Francisco Police Department.

Both suspects assaulted the man, police say, continuing to him him even after he fell to the ground.

As the beating concluded, the pair took the victim's hat before "fleeing on their bicycles."

The victim was transported to an area hospital for injuries police say are not life-threatening. The suspects remain on the loose, and police say that no arrests have been made.
