Just days after an Uber driver was shot at the entrance to Pacific Heights' Lafayette Park, a second shooting has occurred in the area — this time during an early-morning mugging attempt.

"This is an unusual occurrence for this neighborhood, certainly," San Francisco Police Department Lieutenant Amy Hurvitz told ABC 7 Saturday, after the driver of an Uber was shot by two suspects at Laguna and Clay Streets, near the entrance to the 11.49 acre park. But it appears the occurrence is swiftly becoming more usual, as police say a man described only as in his mid-20s shot another man as he crossed the park at 2:15 this morning.

According to the SFPD, the 20-year-old victim "was walking in the park" when one of the suspects approached him "on foot and asked to use his phone." When the victim pulled out his mobile device, the suspect attempted to snatch it and a struggle ensued.

Over the course of the struggle, police say the suspect "pulled out a gun." Seeing that, the victim turned to flee, as the suspect fired at him, striking the victim at least once.

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for injuries police say are not life-threatening. The suspect remains at large, police say, and as with the Uber shooting, no arrests have been made in the case.
