No longer will Hayes Valley be deprived of decent bagels when, in just under two weeks, Wise Sons Bagel will arrive in the former Artis space at 537 Octavia. We learned that Wise Sons would be opening its fifth outpost here back in July, and now, with a remodel almost complete, the place is set to open on October 31, bringing their fresh bagels, schmears, and Stumptown coffee to yet another SF 'hood.

Hoodline has a few details, and they report that the new joint will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and serve many of the same items found at the Fillmore location, like hot pastrami bagel sandwiches, chocolate babka, and smoked fish. The bagels, as you should know, come in only five classic flavors: plain, sesame, poppy, salt, and everything, and there's also onion bialys. (See full Fillmore menu here.) It sounds like they won't be doing egg sandwiches here, though — possibly because the space isn't permitted to do any real "cooking."

Local muralist Amos Goldbaum, who did a mural for the Fillmore shop, has done another for the Hayes Valley location, depicting a fictive version of the Central Freeway that used to cut through this neighborhood.

Finished mural for @wisesons new Hayes Valley shop. Check it out when they open in a few weeks!

After opening their flagship deli-restaurant on 24th Street in 2012, Wise Sons has since expanded with an outpost at the Jewish Museum downtown, the Fillmore bagelry, and a bagelry in Larkspur that opened in July. All the bagels are made in their Fillmore commissary space, and yes, sometimes they do run out by afternoon.

Wise Sons announced that they had purchased the lease from Artis in July, and that they planned to retain most of the cafe's staff.
