Five years after Michelin two-star fine dining spot Cyrus was forced to close following a legal battle with its landlord, the Healdsburg restaurant that made a name for chef Douglas Keane is prepping for a renaissance in a newly constructed space in Alexander Valley, come 2019. Eater reports on the development following a brief statement from the team of Keane and partner-manager Nick Peyton, with whom he also owns Healdsburg Bar & Grill.

Plans for construction on an empty parcel of land owned by Jackson Family Wines, a.k.a. the Kendall-Jackson vineyard, date back to 2014, and Keane discussed plans at the time for a restaurant about half the size of the original in downtown Healdsburg, 36 seats versus the former's 85. He also hinted at building a "chocolate room" that guests would enter for their dessert course, mentioning Willy Wonka as inspiration.

Construction has apparently been delayed the past three years due to concerns from the neighbors in quiet Alexander Valley who are worried about unwanted traffic.

The statement from Cyrus is as follows:

We are very excited to confirm that Cyrus will reopen in 2019 in a new building and location, taking advantage of the breathtaking vineyard views in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County. We look forward to offering a unique and evolved version of our carefully curated service and cuisine. We will have more information in the coming weeks/months.”

In the intervening years since Cyrus's closure, Keane has appeared on Top Chef Masters (which he won) and focused on several other projects, including a short-lived Japanese steak house concept in downtown Healdsburg called Shimo Modern Steak (which actually opened and closed before Cyrus closed), and the short-lived DK Wings outpost at the Graton Resort and Casino in Rohnert Park. More recently he opened Two Birds/One Stone, a Japanese-inspired bistro in St. Helena with LA chef and Top Chef buddy Sang Yoon, which got a Bib Gourmand nod from the Michelin people last fall, and got two and a half stars from Michael Bauer last summer.

Stay tuned for more details as the team releases them.
