Desperate to stoke the flames of left-wing rage so that they and their confusing movement don't slip into obscurity, Patriot Prayer "organizer" Joey Gibson has come back from the Pacific Northwest to make an unscheduled, surprise appearance on the UC Berkeley campus for which he does not have a permit. He also did not have a permit for amplified sound, so it's unclear if more than a dozen or so of Gibson's Facebook friends showed up to listen.

As ABC 7 reports, the plan was for Gibson to come to campus Tuesday along with Kyle "Based Stickman" Chapman, and to lead a rally and march. Gibson noted in a vlog post Monday that there were "some disgusting things happening in Berkeley," perhaps referring to the fairly benign and aborted appearance that Milo Yiannopoulos made on campus on Sunday, which was heavily guarded and patrolled by police at the expense of some $800,000 to the university.

Gibson, infamously, announced a right-wing rally on San Francisco's Crissy Field last month that many interpreted as a call to neo-Nazis and white supremacists, prompting some citywide chaos and several large but peaceful protest marches despite its cancellation. Mayor Ed Lee is sending him a bill for the $755,000 that that cost the city in police overtime and other expenses.

As the LA Times reports, there were some scuffles between Gibson's cohort and counter-protesters today, and two arrests were made. The Mercury News notes four arrests.

Two of those, caught by an ABC 7 reporter, inclde this guy, who apparently had a "fixed blade knife."

Gibson has repeatedly tried to distance himself from calls that he is racist or white supremacist (he is in fact half-Japanese), however as This American Life was just discussing in a piece this week, various Libertarian, pro-male, pro-gun, and variously conservative groups on the right and alt-right have, whether they like it or not, gotten in bed with racists with events like Charlottesville. Gibson continuously denies that he's invited white supremacists to his events, and yet Chapman himself has publicly spoken about things that sound white supremacist, and overtly anti-Muslim.

Below, a video posted to Facebook around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday by Gibson, showing him and a dozen or so pals wandering around the Berkeley campus. Gibson says it was a "great day" and he heard some "great speeches."

Here's footage of Gibson and Chapman in downtown Berkeley toward People's Park, flanked by protesters.

Free Speech Week, Yiannopoulos's now canceled campus event, was supposed to go on from Sunday to Wednesday, and prompted many classes on campus to be canceled out of safety concerns.

I'll leave you with this brief interview with a UC Berkeley student talking about how he's tired of all this "s**t" and just wants to go to math class.
