Folsom Street Fair revelers were greeted with a warm and sunny day Sunday — all the better for showing more skin and trotting out their leather and fetish finery in the daylight. What began as a neighborhood festival that took on the leatherish theme of the gay bars that once dominated the SoMa neighborhood, the fair has morphed over three decades into a much larger celebration of BDSM and fetish cultures for gay and straight alike, annually drawing about 400,000 people — making it the third largest outdoor public event in California behind the Tournament of Roses Parade and SF Pride.

This year the fair went down simultaneously with some small protests in Berkeley around a sparsely attended, fairly disorganized appearance by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos. Given how we've heard from multiple sources over the years how conservatives and red states tend to be the country's biggest consumers of porn, and kink, one could make a case that Yiannopoulos would have drawn more supporters across the Bay were it not for the conflict, and the extra-good weather for Folsom frolicking.

From colorful furries to pony play aficionados to a male mermaid (merman?) in rope bondage, photographer Erik Wilson captured an array of Folsom fashions across the fetish spectrum.
