Believe it or not, some snow fell last night in the Sierra, and on Half Dome in Yosemite, meaning at least up there, summer is officially dunzo.

Some flakes fell at higher elevations around Tahoe, such as along the Mount Rose Highway just north of Tahoe, on the Nevada side, as seen in ABC 7's video below.

Per the Chronicle, via the National Weather Service, four to six inches fell around Donner Pass, and Truckee saw under an inch of snow on Wednesday night. And the image above, taken this morning from the web cam at Kirkwood ski resort, shows a light dusting of snow from last night.

And as CBS 5 reports, on this, the official last day of summer, there's actually a winter weather advisory in effect for the higher elevations for Thursday, some of which could see up to eight inches!

Ski season, which didn't officially end at several Tahoe resorts until late July or early August after some massive snowfall last winter, is now expected to start up again at at least one resort, Mt. Rose, on October 27, according to Tahoe Weekly.

Brian O'Hara, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Reno, tells the Chronicle that "This isn't unusual. In late September, we start seeing some light snow and flurries around the higher elevations."
