The Wise Sons empire is in growth mode, and pretty soon, Hayes Valley denizens will not have to hoof it to Fillmore Street to get their bagels. Hoodline reports that they've taken over the lease of Artis, the wee cafe at 537 Octavia Street, and a Wise Sons location — likely a bagelry and cafe, like the one they just opened in Larkspur this week at the Marin County Mart.

The Artis folks aren't too pleased about having to close on July 23, as Eater confirms. But the Wise Sons team has offered to retain most of the Artis staff at the location, which is nice of them.

Eater also confirms that unless Wise Sons wants to go through some major Planning rigamarole, they're going to want to stick with just "limited restaurant use" at the Octavia space, so this likely won't be a full-fledged deli location — though the Wise Sons team has not yet confirmed nor denied this.

Artis briefly tried expanding to the Castro and then closed that location last year. As Hoodline notes, the roastery still has a shop in Berkeley, and one in Bangkok, Thailand.

Wise Sons meanwhile now has five locations with this one, including their outpost at the Jewish Museum, the Fillmore bagel bakery, and their 24th Street deli flagship.
