Upper Castro Street in the Duboce Triangle neighborhood was closed for about three hours on Tuesday evening after a 24-Divisadero bus collided with a Yerba Mate delivery truck at the intersection of Beaver Street — between 15th and 16th. The incident took place at about 5:20 p.m. as Bay City News reports, and a total of nine people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries as a result.

The incident is under investigation, and traffic was being diverted for hours at rush hour in this already busy neighborhood while the situation was assessed. The truck appears to have been trying to make a turn (?) and collided with the bus, smashing the driver's side window of the bus.

As the Chronicle reports, both the bus driver and the driver of the truck suffered injuries, along with seven Muni passengers.

CBS 5, which mis-identifies the vehicle in question as a beer delivery truck — yerba mate is not beer! — reports that the truck appeared to have crossed the double yellow line at the time of the crush. They also report that there were only six people on the bus, including the driver, but that doesn't compute if nine were hospitalized.
