If you were thinking of heading to Goat Hill Pizza on Potrero Hill tonight for their weekly all-you-can eat pizza deal, you are out of luck. The 42-year-old neighborhood pizza spot is closed as of today for a three-month renovation/remodel which owner Philip De Andrade characterizes in a press release as just some necessary "upgrades" to "reinvigorate" the pizza operation. During the closure, Goat Hill's two other locations in SoMa and West Portal will remain open.

CEO David Sturno describes the closing as "more of a restoration than a renovation — like polishing the old family silver," adding that the closure is also going to allow for a technology upgrade that will remove third-party apps from the pizza delivery process — allowing online ordering that feeds directly to their kitchen printers at all three locations.

Goat Hill Pizza first opened in their 18th and Connecticut spot in 1975, serving the kind of "San Francisco-style" sourdough crust pizzas that are also served at Pauline's. The place is named for the goats that once wandered around Potrero Hill — which was originally known to early Spanish settlers as Potrero Nuevo, or "new pasture," for its cow grazing land — which can be seen in photographs taken there after the 1906 earthquake and fire among the shacks that housed some of the hill's newest residents around that time, European and Irish immigrants whose SoMa area homes burned down.

The Potrero location of the pizzeria is expected to reopen in September, and delivery and pickup will be available in the meantime at the other two locations from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.
