In addition to a previously announced (but delayed) expansion to Downtown Los Angeles, The Slanted Door will also be opening a new location in Las Vegas next year. Eater gets word on the plans for a 8,200 square-foot restaurant at Caesars Palace, due to open in 2018.

Despite being one of the highest grossing restaurants in the state and the country, The Slanted Door's Ferry Building location has remained its only one until these recent expansion announcements — not counting chef Charles Phan's more casual Out the Door spinoff locations, of which there are now only two, one adjacent to the main restaurant at the Ferry Building and one in Pacific Heights. The acclaimed Vietnamese restaurant spawned two cookbooks, and won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant in the nation in 2014.

In 2013, Phan did open a second Embarcadero restaurant, the New Orleans-influenced Hard Water. Another restaurant with southern American cuisine, South at the SF Jazz Center, which later pivoted toward Mexican food, shuttered earlier this year. And after forays into Chinese food (Wo Hing General Store, Heaven's Dog) and British pub fare (The Coachman), it looks like Phan has decided to focus back on what made him famous, and that's Vietnamese.

We'll update you as Slanted Door Vegas becomes closer to becoming a reality.
