Police are seeking the occupants of a grey sedan and a red BMW, after reports that at least a dozen shots were exchanged between the vehicles as they raced down a busy San Francisco street.

San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Giselle Talkoff says callers reported gunfire on the 2700 block of Polk Street, which is between Chestnut and Lombard Streets, at 9:30 Sunday morning.

Talkoff says that police believe the gunfire came from "two vehicles seen in the area," one of which she says fled north on Polk.

According to an area resident who spoke with NBC Bay Area, "Well, I woke up and was trying to grab a cup of coffee and heard something that I thought was a firecracker, and then heard another one, and there was about 12 in total...I literally hit the deck after about the sixth one."

"I saw two cars side by side blow through the stop sign," another resident told ABC 7.

When officers arrived on the scene, neither car could be found, Talkoff said. However, officers did discover bullet casings, likely from the shooting.

Home security footage at the home of area resident Michael Kelly appears to show the shots being fired between a grey sedan and a red BMW and they sped down Polk between Lombard and Bay Streets.

An Audi parked in the area was damaged by the gunfire, multiple media outlets report. As of Monday morning, Talkoff says no victims have revealed themselves, nor is any suspect information available.
