Someone forgot to shut the barn door somewhere in Contra Costa County. CHP received a call around 7:25 a.m. of two horses on the loose in Alamo, and while officers were quick to spot them, the horses gave chase. They "evaded responding CHP units for approximately 20 minutes on city streets before making their way onto Interstate 680."

Eventually, "in a collaborative effort with CHP units, Walnut Creek Police, and Contra Costa County Animal Control the horses were corralled at approximately 8:30 a.m." Northbound 680 was briefly closed, and Animal Control safely returned the horses to their owner.

The horses posed an unusual problem for Monday morning commuters, but they weren't the only issue today. First a trespasser on the BART tracks in San Leandro slowed that service, then a downed power line took out BART service from SF to Oakland completely for about an hour at the height of the morning commute crush.
