A man in fighting for his life Tuesday, after a knife attack in San Francisco's Mid-Market area left his seriously injured.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, the altercation occurred at 11:35 a.m. Monday, near the intersection of Market and Seventh Streets.

Police say that the victim, a 51-year-old man, was on the street when he was approached by a "screaming" 36-year-old male.

The screaming man then stabbed the victim "several times," police say, even as the victim "attempted to flee."

Police swiftly arrived on the scene and arrested the stabbing suspect, according to the SFFD. The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which police characterize as life-threatening.
